 Introducing New Board Members
|
|
Rural Health Network is welcoming four new Board Members who began their three-year terms on January 1, 2020. Board President Lenore Boris said: "This is a talented group of individuals who bring both a diversity of expertise and geographic representation to Rural Health Network. The challenges facing our rural communities and economies impact the regions health outcomes and status. Our new members join a strong Board team that works hard to consider and advise on interdisciplinary strategies for improving rural health."
The new members of the Rural Health Network Board of Directors are:
Kelly Ames:
Ms. Ames is a resident of Morris, NY (Otsego County) and is a Community Relations Specialist with Fidelis Care. Ms. Ames is actively involved in community organizations and activities, including United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties, Chenango County Dental Task Force, and the Otsego County Big Buddy Program. Ms. Ames is also a certified NYS Court certified Mediator.
Dr. Shelly L. Bartow
: Dr. Bartow is a resident of Bainbridge, NY (Chenango County) and is the Executive Director of Delaware Opportunities, Inc. Dr. Bartow's community service includes serving as a member of Bainbridge-Guilford Central School District - School Board, serving on the United Way of Delaware & Otsego Counties Board of Directors, and serving as a member of the Delaware County Substance Abuse Task Force.
Melissa Klinko:
Melissa Klinko is a resident of Vestal, NY (Broome County) and is a Communications Manager with Excellus BlueCross BlueShield. Ms. Klinko's community service includes serving on the Board of Directors of the Family and Children's Society, and membership in the Binghamton Sertoma, Women's Fund of South Central New York and the Binghamton University Forum. Ms. Klinko has been the primary liaison between Excellus BlueCross BlueShield and Rural Health Network over the past fifteen years and has been instrumental in facilitating support for chronic disease education, transportation to healthcare and Growing Health events.
Josephine Anderson Robles:
Ms. Robles is a resident of Sayre, PA and is the New York State DSRIP Program Manager for Guthrie. Ms. Robles has over thirty years of experience in the healthcare industry and technology sector and has worked with Rural Health Network on several projects made possible through Care Compass Network. Ms. Robles has served as a volunteer with BRAVO Volunteer Ambulance Core in Brooklyn, NY and served on the Board of Directors of the Have a Heart Foundation.
Rural Health Network extends its appreciation to our new Board Members for their commitment to improve the health and well-being of rural people and communities.

Getthere Vanpool Partners with United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus
|
Rural Health Network of South Central New York's Getthere Transportation to Employment Program partnered with United Methodist Homes (UMH) Hilltop Campus to launch its vanpool program in mid-January.
Ron Patti, Executive Director of the United Methodist Homes Hilltop Campus, said that "UMH is excited to work with Rural Health Network to help employees get to and from work. We feel this will provide current and potential new UMH employees with an affordable way to commute to work. We looked into providing a similar service but found that partnering with RHN cost pennies on the dollar in comparison."
The Transportation to Employment Program is funded by Governor Cuomo's Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI), through the Binghamton-Broome Anti-Poverty Initiative (BBAPI), a program of the United Way of Broome County.

55.6% of our campaign goal.
We are on track to purchase the building and furnishings in late February. We plan to complete renovations in 2020 as we continue to raise the funds needed.

| The Food and Health Network Farm to School team visited Deposit Middle/High School on January 9th to promote NY Thursday and raffled off two great cookbooks. Beginning this month, schools participating in Farm to School will observe NY Thursday with locally sourced meals twice a month. |

CLEAN Laundry Program 2019 Impact
For some families, the cost of laundry and laundry supplies puts strain on the household budget. Having clean clothes restores a sense of dignity, and cleaning linens regularly reduces the risk of bed bugs and other health concerns. In the July newsletter, we shared that a summer intern for the Social Determinants Measurement project was designing a laundry program to support the Our Lady of Lourdes cohort at 303 Main St, where a Rural Health Network Community Health Worker is providing social support and navigation to enrolled Medicaid members.
We are pleased to share that the Community Laundry Effort Assisting Neighbors (CLEAN) program has been up and running since October. Through the CLEAN program, cohort members with a demonstrated laundry need can pick up quarters, tokens, and detergent at the North of Main (NoMa) community center in Binghamton. We were also able to purchase laundry carts for people with mobility limitations.
Our 2019 impact:
* October: 6 patients served, $57 in quarters/tokens distributed, 16 boxes of detergent
* November: 20 patients, $196.50 in quarters/tokens, 55 boxes detergent, 4 laundry carts
* December: 16 patients, $154.50 in quarters/tokens, 43 boxes detergent
The CLEAN program will continue to serve cohort members with funding from Care Compass Network through September 2020, with potential expansion to other community members and other sources of funding after that time.
