Our Six Priorities
Last August, the FCC Church Board adopted six priorities to address during the next 12 months. I would like to provide you a mid-year update with some of the activities of each of these groups:
•
Property Use:
FCC has signed a contract with the Boys and Girls Club to use specific areas of our building in their after-school program. The areas are the third floor, Major Hall, Major Hall kitchen, and the lower level restrooms. The youth have made improvements to the third floor primarily through cleaning, painting, and organizing the space. All church members are invited to view the improvements made.
Additionally, we continue to open our doors to the Seedling Theater, support groups, bridge club, and many church sponsored groups. Our church is being more welcoming using advertising such as the billboards welcoming everyone to attend our events during the month of December.
•
Small Groups:
Approximately 100 people participated in small groups leading up to a November 17 celebration. These same groups spent December with Advent studies developed by Rev. Jim Warren. Plans are for small groups to continue in January. Should you want to inquire or join a group, please contact the church office, speak with a staff member, or indicate on the attendance pad in worship. These groups are perfect for winter, get out and meet with similarly interested people, have discussion and devotion, and many groups meet at fun places some of the time.
•
Welcome All:
This group meets regularly and is working on methods to inform the congregation of the process to becoming a truly welcoming congregation. The concept of “welcome all” means we accept and welcome all into our congregation. To be a vibrant and growing congregation, potential members are looking for churches that truly welcome all.
•
Analyze Staffing Needs:
This group is working on determining our staff needs to serve our church. A tool has been developed, now in the testing phase, to assist with job and position description development. This group will work closely with PPR to determine the right staffing for our church.
•
Meet the Neighbors:
This group’s most recent effort was to invite those groups that use our church to attend the recent Hanging of the Green service. Some of these attendees participated in the service which brought our community closer together.
•
Missional Development:
This priority is still in the infancy stage. There is a vision to teach or train groups how to perform mission work and expand our role of spreading God’s word throughout the community. If you have any interest in this priority, please visit with Rev. Jim Warren.
There has been a lot of enthusiasm throughout our church family as we tackle these priorities that align with our new Mission and Vision Statements. If you are involved, thank you! If you have not had a chance to be involved and would like to, there are many opportunities. Please indicate on the weekly attendance pad you have interest or speak directly to church staff members to choose an area where you can be involved.
Blessings!
Joe Bandy, President

Spiritual Growth/
Small Groups
|
Although we've been spared the cold and snow for the most part, these short days and long nights still turn our attentions inward. In these times, fellowship can be a powerful healer and source of rejuvenation - and FCC has much fellowship to share!
We have 11 small groups meeting regularly. That's 100 of your fellow church family members coming together in Christ. While our eyes have been focused on Advent this past month, we now return to the areas of study and service each of our groups are called to.
In this season of beginnings, we encourage you to resolve to make time for fellowship. If you're in a group, keep with it. If you're curious about joining a group, let us know. And if you can only join us at church on Sunday or on our live streams, may the fellowship of your family in Christ reach you still.
A happy and joyous 2020 to you all!
- - Bill Robitske, Ministry Steward
Brown Bag Bible Bunch
This weekly study group meets on Wednesdays 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. The topic is the scripture for the upcoming Sunday. Pack a lunch and join us!

Reach Out/Meet the Neighbors
|
Thanks to everyone
who helped make someone’s Christmas brighter.
Whether you gave to the Adopt a Family, Fresh Start, or Regional Alternative glove drive, you made a difference.
January will be a bit less busy. We will serve at Abundant Life on the the 3rd Sunday. Maybe you have wanted to help but were busy. How about you give it a try in January? You will be blessed far more than you know.
Also, keep in mind that the nominating committee will soon begin their work of filling positions for the upcoming church year. Reach out will be needing a new Ministry Steward. Maybe God is leading you to respond in this way. Please pray about it.
- - Julie Robinson, Ministry Steward

Gifts for Another Table
In January we are collecting items for the Regional Alternative School. Let’s help them with the following items:
shampoo and conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, hand lotion, Chapstick, and diapers.
Abundant Life Church Meals
FCC will be serving on January 19. It is time to sign up at the Info Desk to help or provide food for the January meal. For information, contact Julie Robinson at jerobinson21409@yahoo.com.
Sharing the Warmth Winter Outer Wear Collection
Please contribute to the annual collection of winter outer wear for the men. We need gently used or new winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves of all sizes. We especially need large sizes. Thanks in advance for "Sharing the Warmth!" with men leaving Lincoln Correctional Center.
Teacher Wish Lists
Reach Out is collecting supplies for Sheridan and Bent Schools’ teachers. Please find a display at the Info Desk with specific needs on pick-and-take tabs.

Disciples Women's Ministries
|
·
The Disciples Women's Ministry group had a delightful luncheon at Westminster Village on December 5 with 40 attendees.
·
We are now ready to begin a new year on January 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the Conference Room. Leslie Frizzell will continue our study, "Walking in Jesus' Footsteps." We will read Mark 9:2-13 (The Transfiguration). We would love to see any other ladies who would like to join us.
All are welcome!
·
The ladies are adding support of the Boys and Girls Club to their projects for the year.
·
Cap Collection: DWM is very grateful for all who are saving and donating their plastic lids for benches. This effort is a real help for not adding to landfill and ocean waste; however, as a gentle reminder, here are the “do’s” for lids you contribute: Lids must be free of any food residue and liners must be removed, as food residue and liners interfere with the recycling process. We cannot use plastic food containers, metal lids, or lids from drive-thru drink containers. Thank you and keep them coming.
·
Please send the names and addresses of college students and military personnel to Maggie in the office if you would like them to receive a Love Box for Valentine's Day. We will not use last year’s list as it may be out of date. Time flies so please do this as soon as possible!
|
|
Thank You!
We have received thank you notes from Seedling Theatre (building use), Betty Steinlicht (health), Leonard & Charlene Maupin (health), Sandy Anderson (sympathy), Operation Santa (donations), and Narcotics Anonymous (building use).

Livestreaming
We are livestreaming, or broadcasting, our 9:00 a.m. Sunday service on Facebook. You can watch from our website homepage, as well as on Facebook. On our website, scroll down to the bottom of the homepage and see that the current or most recent broadcast is toward the top of the selections there. You can also watch older broadcasts. If you use Facebook, just go to our Facebook Page and see the broadcast start a few minutes before 9:00 a.m. If you would like to help Dave Phillis on Sunday mornings with the cameras, please visit with him in the sanctuary balcony on a Sunday morning.

Christmas Greetings
Rather than sending Christmas cards to all our church friends, our tradition is to send one card to the church to be placed in a basket in the Centrum for all to read. Many enclosed the amount saved on cards and postage, and this donation will be given to Camp Walter Scott. Over the season we received greetings from the following individuals or families: David Bradbury, Jane Brummet, Deanne Bryant, Chaney family, Chapman family, Ken & Marcia Christensen, Damery family, Eddie Dill, Tom & Barb Dixon, Zoe Iutzi, Al & Beverly Leight, Frank & Lois Lipscomb, Pat Manahan, Leonard & Charlene Maupin, Nussbaum family, Dave & Brenda Phillis, Pool family, Neil & Dorothy Sallee, Chuck & Kathy Smalley, Jean Snyder.
|
|
|
Many members and non-members took part in our Spontaneous Nativity Pageant at 5:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve. A fun and meaningful time was had by all!

Serving Schedules
are included in each

When you find it necessary to find a substitute, please try to trade with someone else and don’t forget to tell the church office at 309-829-9327 or office@blmfcc.org as soon as you can.
Knowing who is actually serving is important to the staff and leadership for various reasons. Thank you for your help!
