Message from the CEO We were thrilled this week to learn HISA is on the shortlist to host MedInfo 2021 in Australia. With strong support from members and sponsors, colleagues and friends, we have made a concerted bid to bring the 18th World Congress on Medical and Health Informatics to Sydney. We will make a final presentation and be evaluated at the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) General Assembly on 22 August in Hangzhou, China, during MedInfo 2017. Bringing MedInfo back to Australia (it was hosted by HISA in Brisbane 2007) will bring some of the worlds greatest health informatics minds to our doorstep. Not only can we learn and network with global leaders in our field, we can renew and form the relationships and international links that will last for years to come. HISA prides itself on both national and international networks and alliances and will always be looking for opportunities to build bridges. Wish us luck!

Dissecting Digital Health Podcasts In this newly launched unique podcast series, HISA CEO Dr Louise Schaper interviews legends of the digital health and health informatics world as well as people you might never have heard of - clinicians, researchers, captains of industry, students, technologists, and even a theoretical physicist or two. This year we are launching the HIC Ignite stage in the heart of the HIC expo and giving you another opportunity to share your work and be heard by some of Australias healthcare leaders, innovators and investors. You are invited to make a compelling pitch to present your digital health topic for why you should be selected to be a HIC Ignite Presenter.
Healthcare is a complex system where the general mind set is at first, do no harm. Traditionally, we require an evidence base to prove models and to implement change. The trouble with this approach is how do we work with innovative change in a system that is inherently risk adverse, slow to respond and implement, and resistant to change because there are so moving parts and competing interests? Shout out to members! The AGM season continues this week with HISA QLD holding its AGM tomorrow (28 June) and Victorias AGM on Thursday (29 June). Tasmanias date is set for 5 July. Thank you to those who attended the recent AGMs in WA and NSW. It was great to see so many new faces (as well as our familiar friends) at the recent HISA WA event Nursing Informatics in Action.
New release for My Health Record:The Australian Digital Health Agency has successfully deployed release 8 of the My Health Record which includes a number of usability improvements for consumers and clinicians. The Agency says it has worked with stakeholders to understand pain points and focused in this release on improving the presentation of data and the usability of the system. One of HISAs valued corporate partners Datacom Health is launching a 12-chapter People First series to explore different perspectives on technology in healthcare. Just as Bertalan Meskos article tackles the question What has digital health ever done for us?, Datacom says there is often a gap between technology used at home such as travel and banking, and appreciation of its value in the health workplace. You are invited to participate in building future chapters by sharing your own views.
The next HISA breakfast series will be in Brisbane on 13 July, in partnership with Truven Health Analytics, part of the IBM Watson Health business. We will explore health data analytics and clinical data surveillance in the antimicrobial stewardship, infection prevention and therapeutic drug monitoring setting to assist faster patient interventions. Nursing Informatics Australia has called for nominations to the NIA committee with the closing date for nominations Friday 14 July.
NIA has led nursing informatics development for more than two decades in Australia and members are among Australias most forward thinking digital health practitioners
