New Jersey Coach Connect
March 2018
TopofDoc
From the ICF-NJ President

Dear ICF NJ Members,

In 2008, I became a member of the International Coach Federation and ICF-NJ. At the time I was a newly certified coach excited by the opportunity to connect with a community of coaches with whom I could share, learn and grow. I was looking to find a place where I could continue my professional development and hopefully find support to grow my business.

Ten years and five board roles later, I find that those things that I originally looked for are still the things I seek in ICF-NJ today. And I believe those are things that will bring you, as a coach or potential coach, great value too.

So I encourage you to
hop on over to ICF's global site to renew or apply for ICF membership, which includes your New Jersey chapter membership.

As I hope you're aware, ICF global provides many levels of support for its members, such as:

ICF Advance 2018  events are designed for coaches, trainers and researchers who want to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. Learn more at coachfederation.org/events/icf-advance.

Archived Learninga professional development and ongoing education platform, is new and easily accessible at coachfederation.org/profile/archived-learning.

The  Regional Support Structure   is designed to help our association better serve and remain connected to a growing global coaching community. Since its introduction in 2016, it has grown to 15 staff, and will continue to grow as our membership does. You can learn more at https://coachfederation.org/regional-support/.

Communities of Practice (CPs)     provide a virtual venue for coaches with a shared interest in a specific topic to advance professional development, deepen their subject-matter expertise, and share best practices, emerging trends, tools and tips. Learn more about CPs at  coachfederation.org/communities-of-practice .

I wanted to alert you that our chapter has a number of initiatives taking place in 2018:
  • The Event and Professional Development and Community Groups Committees have a great lineup of workshops and speakers planned.

  • Our Technology committee is calling for volunteer members as we begin the work of updating the site to respond to the needs of members and visitors.

  • This is our 20th year as a Charter Chapter with ICF so come celebrate with us!!
If you have questions regarding the above, or wish to volunteer, please contact the appropriate board member or me.

And finally:
  • The Membership Committee is striving to make Premier Membership even more valuable. If you have any questions regarding membership, please reach out to Sarah Jack our Membership Committee Chairperson
We look forward to having you in our community and look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event!

Warmly,

Andrea Harvey

Join us on March 1st to have a deep discussion with  our guest panel of PCC and MCC coaches about the essence of our coaching profession - the ICF Core Competencies. These competencies define how we can do our best when coaching our clients.
  • How clearly do we understand the competencies?
  • How relevant are the competencies?
  • How can we go deeper in our coaching by applying them?
  • What benefits do the competencies bring to the coaching conversation?
  • What do we need to consider when applying for our ICF certification?
During our discussion, we hope to identify some distinctions between the core competencies and share examples that exemplify each competency. We hope to take the mystery out of the Core Competencies.

Do you have a question for the panel? Send us your scenarios and questions you would like to see discussed in the meeting. Send an email to: [email protected]

We look forward to seeing you on March 1st.

Why I'm a Member of ICF-NJ
Marcella Prosper, Volunteer,
ICF-NJ Communications Committee

What are the factors that distinguish a successful organization? For me, its investment in the continuing professional and personal development of its members, and its culture. The presence of those elements was immediately apparent to me when I became affiliated with ICF-NJ and began attending chapter meetings and events.

In chapter-wide meetings and community group meet-ups, we typically discuss professional development and growth. We learn about and see demonstrations of current coaching practices and emerging techniques, for example, Energy Medicine and the Somatic Approach to Coaching.

Our members do so much for one another:
  • Share their coaching experiences, techniques, and especially challenges, for everyone's edification and benefit.

  • Offer strategies on growing the coaching practice, maintaining a viable client base.

  • Support creativity and embrace tailoring of traditional coaching techniques to suit clients' individual needs.
  • Encourage commitment to personal development and learning.
  • Value introspection and re-invention of self to motivate growth and prevent stagnation.
  • Perhaps most important, we support one another!

We coach, confront, and motivate. We care. In a world where transactions too often are based on what one can get, the culture here is about what one can give.

Although I am new member I can already say I'm so glad to be here.

We're hoping to make this a regular column. If you'd like to share why you're an ICF-NJ member and the benefits you get from it, please contact Marcella at [email protected].

WE NEED YOU!
To Join Our ICF-NJ Special Projects Team!

We're looking for ICF-NJ members who'd be willing to contribute their time as part of our chapter's Special Projects Team.** This team will work together to plan, coordinate, and execute two critically important ICF-NJ events this year:

International Coaching Week- May 7-13
Professional coaching has the power to transform individuals and organizations. The best way to discover this is to experience coaching firsthand.

Since 1999, this belief has fueled International Coaching Week (ICW), a week-long celebration that educates the public about the value of working with a professional coach and the results that the coaching process can drive.

We believe that local events can contribute to a massive global impact. Every year, local ICF Chapters and coaches celebrate ICW by offering a variety of activities and pro bono services in their local communities to share coaching's positive impact.

20th Anniversary Charter Chapter of ICF
Create excitement and a forum for celebrating our two decades as a Charter Chapter with ICF.

If you're interested in assisting in any of the initiatives above, please contact Andrea Harvey at
[email protected].

**It is expected that Committee members will at all times act in accordance with the International Coach Federation Code of Ethics.

IGNITE Initiative

ICF-NJ is Proud to announce our participation in the IGNITE initiative!

The ICF Foundation strives to ignite social progress. One way we do so is through the IGNITE Initiative, a pro-bono program which allows us to use the skills of coaching to make an impact on the world around us.

IGNITE helps support the work being completed by each Chapter, providing tools and best practices to allow coaches to focus on the greatest change. It exposes more organizations to professional coaching, helps leaders understand coaching's possibilities, and allows participating organizations to make informed decisions regarding their future personal and leadership development budgets.

ICF-NJ is pleased to participate in the IGNITE Initiative by partnering with ICF-NYC to offer coaching to
the Hoboken Public School District  and The Parris Foundation.

Many coaches will have the opportunity to participate in this program , conducting 10 sessions or six months total of coaching. The coaching format is at the discretion of the coach and can be via phone, video or in-person.

Do  you know an organization that meets the  requirements   of the IGNITE program?  We would love to launch a new program with your help!
