DSW Program in Clinical Social Work
 
NYU Silver School of Social Work's three-year, part-time DSW program prepares licensed social workers for leadership roles in academic and agency settings. 
 
The curriculum is geared toward enhancing your skills in academia, clinical supervision, and practice theories with a focus on advances in theoretical and practice models, clinical research, and policies that directly impact practice. 
 
  • Study with renowned faculty, who hold leadership roles in professional organizations, scholarly journals, national research committees, and task forces
  • Take intensive writing workshops and participate in publication development
  • Secure a clinical supervision or teaching internship 
  • Submit a graduation portfolio in lieu of a dissertation

AN ALTERNATIVE VIEW OF EXTREME STATES"

The medical model (approach) to extreme states; so-called "psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder" and other psychiatric labels, has for much too long dominated the mental health landscape. Now we have alternative views and ways to heal. This course is for anyone interested in finding meanings and understanding of distressing experiences. This course is relevant for all mental health professionals, for persons with lived experience of the mental health system, to their families, relatives and interested others. In each of 6 sessions we will view and discuss some videos and talk about a revolutionary report out for the general public (you will get a PDF). We will examine your questions and discuss how these alternatives are coming to CT.

Approved for 12 CECs by NASW/CT, 2 CECs per session.

The Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter is pleased to present its 21st Annual Dementia Education Conference on April 19, 2018 at the Mohegan Sun Convention Center.

Throughout the years, the Alzheimer's Association has united experts worldwide to present the latest information in dementia care practices to participants from Connecticut and surrounding states.  Our goal is to share best practices and creative interventions for the care, treatment, and preservation of the quality of life of persons with Alzheimer's and related dementias.

New this year we are excited to offer a session track for persons living with early stage dementia and a track for facility administrators!

Pending approval for CEC's with NASW/CT.  Upon Approval one workshop will meet the 1-hour cultural competence requirement for licensure and a second workshop will meet 1.25 hours of the 2-hour requirement for Veterans Services.

Multiculturalism and Control-mastery Theory

Control-mastery is an empirically supported, cognitive, psychodynamic, relational theory of psychotherapy. Rather than providing specific techniques for psychotherapy, it describes a stance that is generous, non-pathologizing, and practical for working with even the most challenging cases.

The focus of this workshop will be on how both the client's and therapist's ethnic and cultural identities shape the psychotherapeutic process, using Control-mastery Theory as the framework. The Theory of Control-mastery will be introduced, as well as the concept of cultural responsiveness. In addition to the introduction of Control-mastery Theory, a major focus will be on cultural transference, countertransference and how to utilize this information clinically to benefit the client. While the workshop instructor will provide case examples, participants will also be invited to contribute their own case material.

Presented by Jo Nol, Ph.D., MS, LCSW  who has been a clinical social worker for 33 years. She was a partner at the Women's Center for Psychotherapy in West Hartford, Connecticut, from which she recently retired and continues to teach as an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She has also taught at Michigan State University School of Social Work, Smith College School for Social Work, and St. Josephs College, Department of Social Work. Dr. Nol has been studying, practicing and teaching Control-mastery Theory for 22 years.

EMDR Basic Training

This program offers complete EMDRIA-Approved basic training in EMDR therapy through lecture, clinical case consultation and experiential practicum training for the integration of this highly effective approach into clinical practice.  It has been designed to spread learning and skills development consisting of two three-day modules (Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays) over a 3 month period. This comprehensive training format includes the 10 hours of EMDRIA consultation hours required for EMDRIA's Certificate of Completion of Basic Training. Clinicians previously trained in EMDR can attend at the Reviewer's Track rate, with 10 of the practicum hours applicable towards EMDRIA Certification.
