This week we arrive at Mount Sinai where Moshe Rabbeinu gives the Torah to Bnai Yisrael. We mark this by reading the Aseret Hadibrot or what we know as the Ten Commandments.
There is a time honored custom to stand in Shul while this portion is being read aloud. This custom is not without a bit of controversy as some authorities wonder why we single out ten of six hundred thirteen commandments. (Maybe this is why some stand for the entire Torah reading every week).
In any event, these ten Mitzvot do carry a bit of sway as we find images of the Luchot in many different places. The most important place to keep them inscribed however, is within each and every one of us. These ten all the other six hundred and three.
