Happy Carnival!

Quick fact! Though Mardi Gras happens February 25, we have actually been in carnival season since late January! This time of year is filled with revelry, bright colors, and good times - and it's not just parades.

Pick up a fanny pack with the Well, have a piece of king cake with the LBC, and make sure to listen to your Resident Advisor as they have all the advice and rules you need to know. If you plan to go out on the parade routes or enjoy all that the city has to offer this season, dress smart (there will be mud), travel together, and bring what you need.

Also, keep in touch with our office for incoming leadership opportunities and awards. We have so many ways to build your leadership portfolio and navigate your college career at Tulane.

As always, please reach out to us should you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Stop by to visit us in the Student Organization Center located in the LBC, give us a call at (504) 865-5180, or send us an email at [email protected]

We Need Your Help, Spring Scholars!
Every year, we endeavor to make Orientation as fun, informative, and easy as possible, and this year is no different. However, we can't do it alone! Sign up to attend one of our Spring Scholar Orientation focus groups. In this 50-minute conversation, you'll be asked questions and given the opportunity to share your thoughts about SSO, both the good and the not-as-good.  Did you love Spring Orientation? Did you think it was boring? Crowded? Had too many balloons? Let us know! We want to hear from you. Check out the details below:
  • Did you attend Orientation for PNMs on Tuesday, January 7, 2020? Click here to register for our PNM focus group on Tuesday, February 18th from 12.00pm-1.00pm (LBC 209).
  • Did you attend Orientation for non-PNMs on Friday, January 10, 2020? Click here to register for our non-PNM focus group on Wednesday, February 19th from 12.00pm-1.00pm (LBC 208).
  • Free lunch provided from Fresco Cafe and Pizzeria!
  • Prize: Our eternal gratitude and maybe a high five! Plus, you get to chat with Drew and Anfernee who are really cool (that's us in the photo).

If you have any questions about the focus groups, or you want to participate but can't make it, email project assistants Drew Pearson and Anfernee Murray at [email protected] and [email protected].
Help! Where can I eat during Mardi Gras?
As any Tulane student that has experienced a Mardi Gras in New Orleans can tell you, finding places to eat can be a huge challenge. Luckily, Campus Services has got your back! Check out the infographic below to see all your dining options and their hours of operation.

Last Call: Wave Leader Info Session!
If you're passionate about helping others, developing your personal leadership skills, or acting as a role model, then you might be a great Wave Leader! These student leaders help new students adjust to Tulane's campus by guiding them through Orientation and Fall Welcome (you probably still remember your Wave Leader!). Sounds good? Apply to be a Wave Leader on NSLP's WaveSync page, available here, and be sure to attend the last of our optional but highly encouraged info sessions. Details can be found below:

Returning Student Housing Application
The Housing Application is not complete until the Housing Agreement has been signed. All students living in on-campus housing for the 2020-2021 academic year must electronically sign a Housing Agreement. Make sure to review the full returning student room selection guide here!

Class Year: The top of your application will contain your housing class year. This is determined by the semester you started at Tulane, not by credit hour, and will determine when you select your room. If you believe your class year is incorrect please alert the housing office at  [email protected] by the Housing Application deadline. Transfer student classification is determined by years on campus.

Preferences: You will be asked in the application for your housing preferences. These are for the planning purposes of Housing and Residence Life and does not guarantee you any particular building or room. You will be able to select any available space during Room Selection.

Mixed Gender Housing and Gender Affirming Housing: If you intend to live in the same room, suite, or apartment as someone with a different gender marker on file with the university, you can opt in to Mixed Gender Housing or Gender Affirming Housing. See more details here.

Include in Search: If you do not select the "Include in Search" box you will not be able to be added to a roommate group.

Screen names: Choose a screen name that will be easy for your friends to find during roommate grouping. We recommend your Tulane user name.

Roommate Profile: These information sections are for students to search for a roommate they do not know already, or to assign students together. All students are encouraged to fill this out, even those that know the people they want to live with. This information will be used should a space become vacant in your living unit at a later date.
One Last Note About Mardi Gras
Hey, Spring Scholars -- Anfernee and Drew here again! As we're sure you know, Mardi Gras is fast approaching. You've undoubtedly seen all the banners, barricades, and Facebook parade invites by now, and we just wanted to sneak in a few more words of wisdom. Many of you may have never experienced Mardi Gras or even anything like it, and that's okay! As any local will tell you, it's a marathon, not a sprint. Some of you have only been in the city now for a bit over a month, so if you're feeling a little trepidatious about hitting the town on the craziest days of the year, that's perfectly normal. Have a plan, have a group, and have your wits about you. We're only gonna say this one last time, so please try to remember it:

Drink water!

Sleep!

Have a buddy!

Go at your own pace!

Follow your limits!
