Hello Wellness Teams,
 
I've enjoyed learning more about your action plans and goals. It's good to see that some of you are making use of the resources shared. Please keep in mind that your school action plans needs to be approved before requesting grant payments. All p urchases must be completed by  May 31st  and made through the MCPS Financial Management System (FMS).

Wellness Events 

Taste the Rainbow Monthly Event - Rolling Terrace E.S. 

Congratulations to Rolling Terrace E.S. for promoting nutrition education! Third graders enjoy a monthly tasting of a variety of healthy foods. Cafeteria manager, staff, and parents work together to encourage healthy eating. Students receive a card that gets punched after trying a healthy food. Pineapple chunks and garbanzo beans were offered this month. Those students that try the most fruits and vegetables will participate in a healthy raffle at the end of the year.



Wellness Resources 

School Gardens: 

DC Greens Food Education - DC Greens uses existing infrastructure and partnerships to provide support for teachers looking to infuse food systems education into their curriculum. In its seventh year, the Trellis Program has served teachers from over 100 schools in all eight wards in the district.
  • March 17th and 18th - Two Day LifeLab Growing Classroom Workshop at Oak Spring (for MD and VA teachers only). Workshop registration can be found here.
  • May 30th - Farm to School Gathering 4:30-6:30pm K Street Farm
  • May 25th -  Cooking with Kids Teacher Workshop
  • June 15th -  Rocklands Teacher Farm Field Trip
UMD Grow It Eat It Spring 2018 Open House -  Participants will visit the garden, meet with Master Gardener consultants, and attend classes. There will be garden demonstrations, tables of information, children's programs , a workshop on vegetable gardening in containers, and a plant sale! The event will be held at the  Agricultural History Farm Park,  18400 Muncaster Road  Derwood, MD 20855 on  Saturday, April 28, 2018 from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM.  Find more information and registration here.
