IMPACT 2-1-1 was first in the country to implement a customized auto-text platform to enhance our food pantry referral process for Milwaukee County residents.
When a client texts 'MKEFOOD' to 898-211, it prompts a series of questions which determine focused results of local food pantries. The referral information also includes eligibility requirements and other guidelines. Pantries that meet the unique needs of the client are provided.
IMPACT responded to 32,848 requests for a food pantry in 2019. Seizing technological opportunities such as auto-text helps ensure that clients' needs are addressed quickly and efficiently at a time when more people are relying on the system.

Since its inception in 2017, MKEFOOD auto-text has become an integral part of our service delivery and presents opportunities for expansion into other counties within our Southeastern Wisconsin service area. It may also influence our referral process for focused requests beyond food pantries in the future.
