Presidents Day is a National Holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1885 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called "Washington's Birthday" by the federal government. Traditionally celebrated on February 22, Washington's actual day of birth, the holiday became popularly known as Presidents' Day after it was moved as part of 1971's Uniform Monday Holiday Act. Presidents' Day is now popularly viewed as a day to celebrate all U.S. presidents past and present.

One of the remarkable historic preservation properties in the United States, is Mount Vernon, George Washington's home near D.C. This photo is from a life-size exhibit at Mount Vernon.

"For more than 150 years, the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association has protected and preserved the home of the Father of Our Country,
without government funding."
Mount Vernon is a wonderful place to visit any time of year with state of the art exhibits and plenty of activities and expansive grounds to walk and explore.
