I've long found
this week's scripture passage confounding. Three times, Jesus tells his followers that he will suffer, sacrifice and give his life as an expression of God's boundary-breaking love. And still, the best the disciples can come up with is to jostle for positions of privilege and power.
What's particularly haunting is just how blind Jesus' followers are to the implications of his teaching. Even after spending three years with him, they don't get it.
It begs the question of our own blindness. What don't we get? Why?
This week, we'll continue our series on "Why I'm Christian" by talking about power, the nature of real power, the possession and use of power.
Specifically, we'll look at Jesus statement, "I came not to be served but to serve, and to give my life..."
We'll celebrate a number of baptisms at 9:30, enjoy a nationally known guest organist at 11:00 traditional, and share numerous other dimensions across our worship life.
We're fortunate to experience such richness. Come, and bring a friend.
