GOVERNOR'S GREETING
Welcome to your newly revised Kiwanian! I’m so pleased to bring you our first issue. Our goal is to provide you with information that you want to know about the Nebraska-Iowa District, select happenings in our divisions and clubs, and perhaps some information that you don’t expect to see in a Kiwanis publication. We’ll cover subjects like travel, wine, and staying healthy from some of our in-house “experts.” Do you have ideas for the newsletter? Just let us know. In the meantime, read on and enjoy!

Jan Burch
 2017-18 District Governor

Secretaries, pleas e print copies of this newsletter to bring to your club for members who do not have email. Thank you!
FORMULA REPORT
Our defining statement declares that “Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, “one child and one community at a time.” In order to do that more effectively, we need to strengthen Kiwanis by adding members to our existing clubs and opening new clubs.   For over four years, the Formula Team has been working hard to do just that. The reality is that the needs in our communities continue to increase.  Kids REALLY DO NEED Kiwanis , now more than ever!
We urgently need every member to join in our effort to increase our clubs’ membership. Invite your friends, your neighbors, your relatives, your work colleagues, and anyone you meet to a meeting, or better still, one of your service projects. Show them WHY we do what we do! Then ASK them to join in our efforts to improve kids’ lives.
DUCKS FOR SALE
Looking for a new fund raiser? For many years, the Spencer Day Breakers have had an unusual but fun money maker. If you have a small self-contained pond in your area, you have the perfect location for a Duck Derby. Sell the numbered ducks to friends, family, colleagues in your community. On the stated date, all ducks are released into the pond. The lucky duck(s) are fished out to reveal The Winner!
Want to try this in your community? The club’s entire supply of ducks is for sale. Contact Spencer Daybreaks if you are interested:

CRESTON CLUB HITS BULL'S EYE
Kiwanis Club of Creston Iowa, with other community organizations, donated money to the National Archery in Schools Program (NASP). As a result of their contribution archery has become the newest team sport available to Creston youth. The program started with sixteen members and has increased to 68. This exciting new program is available to any student in fourth through twelfth grade and is continuing to grow in popularity with Creston youth.
KEY LEADER RETREAT
Key Leader, held annually, is a weekend-long event bringing together high school students from our district that have demonstrated leadership qualities at school and in their communities. Here, we provide an in-depth leadership training curriculum geared towards further developing those qualities. Last November, 73 students attended Key Leader and enjoyed a weekend of activities and training at Calvin Crest Camp in Fremont, NE.
Two Spring Training events were held in February in Omaha and West Des Moines for LG's, Officers & BOT, and Formula Team Members! WATCH FOR INFORMATION SOON ABOUT OUR WORLD SERIES Convention!
