The Iowa Alliance for Arts Education will be hosting their annual Arts Advocacy Day at the State Capitol in Des Moines on
Wednesday, January 22, 2020.
We can still use more advocates to attend this event.
The day will begin at 8:00 a.m. with an advocate information session. This will be followed by attendance at the opening of the Iowa House and Senate where Miss Iowa, Emily Tinsman, will be singing the national anthem. Advocates will then have the opportunity to meet with legislators to speak to their assigned legislators about the importance of arts education in Iowa schools and the positive effects that the arts have on Iowa students. IAAE will provide lunch and entertainment for the advocates.
The Johnson STEAM Academy in Cedar Rapids will be the featured school at our testimony for the House and Senate Education Committees in afternoon. These meetings are open to all advocates. Advocates will be groups of 2-3 and will be assigned to speak to 4-5 legislators during the morning session. In the past, most of the legislator visits were completed by noon.
