The Connecticut State Library's Division of Library Development Library wishes all a very Happy and Healthy New Year!
As part of its mission, “the Division of Library Development (DLD) provides leadership, funding, education, and statewide services that enhance a local library's ability to deliver high-quality library service to their community.” In our leadership role, and like our state library development division partners across the country we identify, develop, pilot and implement new programs such as EDGE, EXCITE Transformation for Libraries, The Futures School, eGO and other statewide and national programs to strengthen our libraries. We share our program data, training opportunities, outcomes and goals with other state libraries as they do with us. An example of a partner state library program is the Colorado State Library’s Research Institute for Public Libraries (RIPL) which developed a bootcamp program for analyzing data which similar to CSL’s EXCITE Transformation for Libraries project has been offered to libraries across the country to deliver transformational opportunities.
IMLS recognizes groundbreaking programs like RIPL and EXCITE and awards grant funding to expand our leadership roles separate from our Library Services and Technology Act funding (LSTA). We look forward to continuing to explore, identify develop, pilot and implement programs such as our upcoming

Division of Library Development Library Liaison Re-Launch
The Connecticut State Library, Division of Library Development is very pleased to re-launch our library liaison program. Now that we are back to 100% consultants staffing, each library in the state will have a dedicated DLD liaison.

eGO Update
Three additional eGO Information Sessions have been scheduled for January!
eGO CT is a project from the Connecticut State Library that includes acquiring digital content, such as eBooks and eAudio, and making it available to users statewide, primarily through the SimplyE app. At these information sessions, we'll review the background of the project, download and explore the SimplyE app, demonstrate the Circulation Manager, and talk about when and how you can roll out the SimplyE app to your patrons.
DLD began offering eGO Information Sessions at locations around the state starting in November 2019. Public library staff members can attend a session to become familiar with SimplyE as well as Library Simplified, which is the platform that allows staffs to customize the information as it appears to their users in the SimplyE app.
Libraries that have already attended an info session and have their Library Simplified credentials can begin rolling out the SimplyE app to their patrons beginning in January 2020

Cost Benefit report
for fiscal Year 2019 has been added to the researchIT CT: What researchIT CT Saves the State's Libraries and Municipalities page as well. Cost avoidance/savings amounts to
over 39 million dollars

Grant Extended!

NASA @ My Library grant has been extended until June 2020!
NASA Circulating kits are available to borrow year-round, and kit circulation is now open to School Libraries in CT to borrow. Click

State Library Board Approves 4 Library Construction Grants
Congratulations go out to the 4 public libraries that were awarded library construction grants by the Connecticut State Library Board on November 25:
·
$131,214 to the Clark Memorial Library in Bethany to improve accessibility, remodel, energy
conservation., emergency preparedness
·
$1,000,000 to the Meriden Public Library for a major alteration
·
$49,400 to the Warren Public Library to improve accessibility
·
$250,000 to the Waterford Public Library for a major alteration
Total grants awarded: $1,430,614
Once the libraries have reached their local funding goals, the State Bond Commission will consider final approval of state bond funding. For more information on the library construction grant program, see

State Bond Commission Approves Funding for 8 Library Construction Projects
The following public library construction grants were unanimously approved at the December 18 special meeting of the State Bond Commission:

$100,000 to the Danbury Public Library for remodeling
·
$586,717 to the Greenwich Library for a major alteration
·
$40,000 to the Howard Whittemore Library in Naugatuck for new flooring
·
$1,000,000 to the New Milford Public Library for a major alteration and addition
·
$1,000,000 to the Putnam Public Library for new construction
·
$40,400 to the Ridgefield Library for remodeling
·
$145,000 to the Stonington Free Library for accessibility, code work, emergency preparedness,
and remodeling
·
$82,500 to the Weston Public Library for code work, remodeling and energy conservation
These libraries had reached their local funding goals and will now be able to proceed with their projects.
Construction Grant Information Session

You'll learn what you need to do before applying as well as what's required after you receive the grant. Don't get tripped up -- just plan ahead and be prepared.

LSTA Grants
The CT State Library’s Division of Library Development is pleased to announce the availability of approximately $75,000 for LSTA grants in two categories:
1. One-year
literacy grants
will provide up to $7,500 to assist libraries with creating strategic, sustainable partnerships and lifelong learning programs that address the seven literacies in their communities. The seven literacies are described in the Division's
2018-2022 LSTA Five-Year Plan
as basic, early, civic/social, digital/information, financial, health, and legal literacy.
The deadline for literacy grant applications is 4:00 pm on April 9, 2020. Grant programs and spending must occur between July 1, 2020, and June 30, 2021.
2.
Planning grants
will provide up to $5,000 to assist libraries with planning initiatives, such as to explore new services, assess and address the needs of changing population and patron bases, develop partnerships and collaboration, or write new strategic plans or long-range master plans. Libraries must have completed the Best Practices for CT Public Libraries self-assessment and at least 3 steps of the Aspen Action Guide and must submit the results with their grant applications. Projects must include a community needs assessment component, such as a survey, focus groups, interviews, etc.
Rolling deadlines for planning grants will be four weeks before each scheduled State Library Board (SLB) meeting. Upcoming deadlines are in February and April.
Eligibility:
Principal public libraries as well as school, academic, and special libraries are eligible to apply. Libraries may submit only one application per category.
A local match of 25% is required.
All applicants must attend an information session covering application instructions, regulations, and fiscal management. Upcoming sessions through February are listed on the Continuing Education calendar at

, and additional sessions will be offered throughout the year.
This is a competitive grant program, and not all applicants will be awarded funding.
Priority points will be awarded to libraries not receiving LSTA grants in the past 5 years and to libraries with distressed community status.
