Mensaje del Director Brad
Principal Brad's Message
Happy New Year. It’s time for our new New Year's resolutions! A great one would be committing to ensure all kids to COME TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY and ON TIME! I know it is snowy and cold. I know it's hard to get back into the routine, after 18 days of sleeping in and staying up late. I know how difficult it can be to get ourselves out of bed, let alone fighting our hibernating kiddos to do it too. It is a task getting them bundled in their school gear, backpacks ready, and to school on time. But, the start of the day is so important. It is when teachers are explaining and laying out the schedule for the day, answering questions and providing clarity of the daily events. Kids who are late miss that valuable community time together. The best learning occurs when everyone is present and participating in the learning opportunities that Alturas's incredible teachers have planned. It is vital all of our students are here on time, ready to learn everyday with their classmates.

We had 22 unexcused absences on January 8.  Not perfect, BUT it was a huge improvement from the 40 students last year who missed the first day back from winter break. THANK YOU!!! Please, Moms and Dads, continue to promote the importance of school. Continue to schedule vacations during the days provided on the calendar, and ensure that your children are present and ready to learn. We miss them when they are gone, and they miss opportunities to be engaged with their learning community.

On another note. It's cold. Send those little people to school well prepared to fight the bite of winter. Our students WILL go outside for recess MOST DAYS. It is very rare that they will not. We only keep them in if it is pouring down rain, or below 10 degrees. And even then, if the sun is shining and the wind is not blowing, we will send them out to get that needed and necessary run around time.  Cute leggings, nylon sweat pants, basketball shorts, and track jackets are super cool, but they don't do much to fight the Idaho winter.
STURDY SHOES/BOOTS, WINTER COATS WITH WORKING ZIPPERS, WINTER HATS, and GLOVES are must haves - sleeves and pant legs are a pretty awesome consideration too. Don't forget to write your kids names on the tags, so we can help reunite them with their lost items when they decide the snowmen they make need to wear them more than they do.

I hope your winter vacation provided a lot of rest, made for many enjoyable family memories, and wish you all a very happy happy happy New Year.

Sincerely,

Principal Brad

Sinceramente,

Director Brad
