2020 SC Arts Higher Education Forum focused on creativity and innovation!
Quality arts education is a result of quality arts educators. For this reason, ABC Project annually hosts the SC Arts Higher Education Forum to consider issues that impact the systematic continuum of arts education.

This year's theme was on creativity and innovation in the educational and classroom setting. Our keynote speaker, Dr. Ron Beghetto provided practical frameworks to promote and nurture creativity thinking in ourselves and our students. The day's agenda included model classroom demonstrations that intentionally implement creativity-fostering practices and panel discussions to share the innovative work among organizations and programs. We wish to thank all of our presenters who contributed to a positive and powerful day of learning.

Be sure to join us next year on Jan 22, 2021 at Columbia College.

New Arts Teacher Training Program in the Work
Thanks to a generous grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, the Governor's School is creating a professional development program for arts teachers in the Pee Dee region. Select elementary, middle, and high school arts teachers will have the opportunity to receive high-level training in the arts from Governor's School faculty. In March, we are launching a comprehensive needs assessment in Florence, Marion, and Sumter counties to learn more about what kind of professional development would be most useful. If you're an arts teacher, principal, or district level administrator serving these counties, and you'd like to be a part of this needs assessment, please email our Outreach Director Carol Baker at carolbaker@scgsah.org.

ASSET stress reduction tool is helping Governor's School students with anxiety
This fall, we implemented a new program into our curriculum called ASSET to help students reduce stress and anxiety as they cope with the emotional challenges of juggling teenage life, high school, and their arts training. Designed by teachers, ASSET provides social and emotional learning (SEL) stress-reduction curriculum based on the tenets of Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and Positive Self-Talk. While we have incorporated this tool into the classroom, it also helps students with performance and audition anxiety. So far, we are happy to report that we're receiving positive feedback from students.
