Dear St. Francis of Assisi Parents and Guardians,

We are looking forward to an amazing evening at the Annual Gala which is only a week away. Fund An Item has been a successful way to create school improvements which directly benefit the students.  This year, we started down a path of improving the classroom environment by installing LED lighting in all rooms.  After further reflection and dialogue with faculty and parents, administration made the decision to change the Fund An Item to focus on building up the STEM curriculum from grades K-8.

We have a unique opportunity here at St. Francis with excellent Science faculty who are dedicated and trained on a research based curriculum called FOSS (Full Option Science System).  This research based curriculum integrates Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and has been tested and improved for the past 25 years.  FOSS Kits will provide our students the ability to actively investigate, collaborate on learning and problem solving, utilize the Scientific Method to answer focus questions, and monitor progress through ongoing assessment.

Our goal is $25,600 which would enable us to purchase FOSS kits for K-8 in physical, life and earth science.  Our science faculty will utilize this curriculum to spiral standards, core ideas, develop on concepts from one grade level to the next and develop critical thinking skills in all of our students at an age appropriate level.  We will purchase 9 kits for the Kindergarten to 5th grade students and 8 kits for the 6th to 8th grade students.  These kits include investigation guides, teacher resources, equipment kits, tech component, and resource books.  Everything needed to teach these lessons are included.

At St. Francis of Assisi, we are committed to providing an excellent education to prepare our students for high school and beyond.  We believe that opportunities for students to have rigor in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are critical to their future success.  FOSS Kits are an excellent way to do this for our SFA students.  I think we need to invest in how our kids learn science because our kids are the future.  Please join me at the auction and invest in their future by raising your paddle.
