PACE Case: Restlessness and Uncontrollable Facial Movements
A 92-year-old female PACE participant has been acting strange lately, according to her daughter who is her caregiver. Her daughter says that she is blinking/squinting her eyes excessively, constantly getting up and then sitting back down in her chair, slurring her speech, and making kicking motions sporadically throughout the day. She has a past medical history of dementia, hypertension, myocardial infarction, major depressive disorder, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The participant's current MedWise® Risk Score is 24 out of 50 (high).

CareKinesis Welcomes Two New PACE Organization Clients
CareKinesis began partnering to provide its comprehensive PACE medication risk management services to Silver Star PACE in October. CareKinesis will deliver medication safety and pharmacy services to the organization, adding to the CareVention HealthCare (CVHC) services already in place: TruChart EHR/technology (Cognify-Mediture), health plan management (PeakTPA), risk adjustment consulting, and concurrent coding (Capstone Performance Systems). Silver Star PACE provides care to nearly 200 PACE participants in Lubbock, Texas.
CareKinesis will also provide medication safety and comprehensive pharmacy services to WelbeHealth. WelbeHealth, founded by mission-driven physicians to unlock the full potential of the most vulnerable seniors in underserved communities, opened its first two PACE programs in 2019 in the Stockton-Modesto and Pasadena-Glendale-Burbank regions of California. The organization plans to open additional locations in 2020 that also will adopt CareKinesis' pharmacy services and PeakTPA health plan management services.

CareKinesis Pharmacy Holiday Reminder
CareKinesis will be open and operating as usual on Christmas Eve, December 24, and New Year's Eve, December 31.
CareKinesis is available on-call on Christmas Day, December 25, and New Year's Day, January 1 at 1-888-9-PharmD (1-888-974-2763). Medication cycles will be processed and delivered early.

Bypass Surgery and Stents No More Effective than Medication and Lifestyle Changes
A recent study shows that stents and bypass surgery are no more effective at reducing rates of heart attack and death than medication and lifestyle changes. It is recommended that patients with stable ischemic heart disease are treated with a combined approach of medical therapy and healthy lifestyle initiatives, including a whole-food, plant-based diet.
