Salmon season starts June 24
 
Salmon season in southwest Washington kicks off June 24 and it's expected to be excellent. The daily limit near Ilwaco is two salmon, one of which can be Chinook. Fishing options include river and ocean, as well as the popular Buoy-10 fishery later in the season. Port of Ilwaco charters are ready to help you land the big one.

Summer fun kicks off in Ocean Park on June 17-18 when the annual Northwest Garlic Festival returns to Wilson Field. Garlic-laden cuisine is just part of the fun at this summer festival that features live music, vendors, artwork and more.

The Old Fashioned Fourth of July Parade on July 4 in downtown Ocean Park is not to be missed. This small town parade draws a BIG crowd and features all the trappings of hometown fun. 
 

The Beach to Chowder 10k is June 17 in Long Beach.
Starting gun fires at local races

Run the beach, run for a cause or run just for fun. Whatever your motivation, charge into summer with these upcoming races and fun runs.

June 10: 5k Color Run, Ilwaco. Jog for a cause at this run that promotes mental health awareness.

June 17: Beach to Chowder 10k, Long Beach. Now in its 40th year, this 10k unfolds almost entirely on the beach. Enjoy a bowl of chowder at the post-race award ceremony.

July 1: Firecracker 5k, Ilwaco. Starts and finishes at the Port of Ilwaco and includes a portion through Cape Disappointment State Park.

Oct. 15: Great Columbia Crossing 10k, Dismal Nitch to Astoria. Run the 4-mile Astoria-Megler Bridge in this cool 10k that crosses the Columbia River and finishes in downtown Astoria, Ore.
 
Join the Community Beach Cleanup on July 5 at any of the Peninsula's main beach approaches.
Lend a hand: July 5 beach cleanup

All are welcome to show the beach some love during the Community Beach Cleanup on July 5. Join volunteers at 9 a.m. on July 5 at any major beach approach to pick up trash and remove refuse from the sandy shore following July 4th celebrations.

On July 4, enjoy professional fireworks on the beach near the Bolstad Beach Approach in downtown Long Beach around 10 p.m.
