Cold and Influenza (flu) Season
|
|
Cold and influenza (“flu”) season is upon us and we are beginning to see increasing numbers of students with influenza symptoms. These include fever, cough, sore throat, headache, body aches, fatigue, and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
Keep your student at home and consider seeking medical attention if they have typical flu symptoms as listed above or any of the following:
- Fever of 100 degrees or more. Students need to stay home for 24 hours after their temperature returns to normal without the use of fever-reducing medicine.
- Vomiting or diarrhea. Students need to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
- Any uncontrolled cough.
- Any rash for which you do not know the cause. Check with your family physician/clinic before sending the student to school.
- Strep Throat. May return 12 hours following the first dose of antibiotics, if fever free and well enough to fully participate in school.
If you would like to speak to the school nurse or health aide about your student’s illness please call Jeanelle Rasmussen at 952-928-6311.

If you like gaming of all types (card, board, video), and you're looking for something to do Mondays after Winter Break, then Gaming Club is for YOU! We will meet each Monday January 6 to March 23 (excluding Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and Presidents' Day) in the Middle School Cafeteria. We will meet right after school (2:15 p.m.), and students are welcome to take either the 3:00 p.m. or 4:30 p.m. buses home, walk, or get a ride. There is NO COST for this Club! Students are welcome to bring their own devices/games; neither the supervisors nor SLPMS are responsible for lost, broken, or stolen items. Permission slips can be picked up from Mr. Burr in room 236. There is also a copy of the permission slip attached

St. Louis Park Middle School New Online Registration and Online Payment Portal
St. Louis Park Middle School will be using an online registration and payment portal this year. This is an exciting change which allows families to register and pay for middle school athletics digitally in a safe and secure way for sports.
When prompted to log in, you will log in with the same username and password you use to pay your student's lunch account.
The first day of practice is Monday, January 13. The season lasts approximately eight weeks, usually until the first week of March. Practices are from 2:30-4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. There are no after school activities on Wednesdays.
The following must be received by the Athletic Director by January 13 for boys' basketball:
- Registration and payment (see above for instructions)
- Proof of sports physical exam (exam date can be found on PowerSchool) given within the previous three years (which clears the athlete for full participation) on file in the Health Office. If the physical expires during the season, a new physical must be provided before the athlete may begin participation. A well child check-up or immunization record do not count as a sports physical. School Board approves 2020-21 school calendar
|
|
The School Board approved the final 2020-21 school calendar at its business meeting on Monday, December 9, 2019. There are a couple of important changes to this final version compared to the preliminary version that the Board approved in January 2019.
Due to the fact that several of our buildings serve as polling places, the Board has decided to not hold school (E-12) on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2020. The professional development day for E-12 licensed staff originally scheduled for Friday, December 4, 2020, will be moved to Election Day. This means that Friday, December 4, 2020 will now be a regular school day for students and staff. As a result of this decision, the no school day originally scheduled for Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 (elementary professional development and secondary grading) has been moved to Monday, Nov. 2, 2020.
