Join us for our Annual Projects Tour

Thursday, December 5, 2019 9:30 to 1:30pm (Lunch included) Gold Ridge RCD 2776 Sullivan Rd, Sebastopol, CA

The tour is an occasion to visit a few conservation projects completed this year and celebrate our achievements. This is a great opportunity for our partners, funders and interested members of the public to see what our collective efforts to steward and conserve natural resources have created.    This year we plan to visit two stream habitat enhancement projects: the Tannery Creek Large Wood Recruitment Project near Bodega, CA and the Iron Horse Vineyards Dam Removal Project near Sebastopol, CA. We will also present briefly on the North Coast Soil Health Hub, LandSmart conservation planning for forestlands, and community wildfire protection efforts. Healthy Soils

Rescheduled: Healthy soils for small coastal dairies workshop

Tuesday, December 17, 2019 10am to 2pm (Lunch included) Valley Ford, CA

This event was previously canceled due to the Kincade fire evacuations. We are happy to offer it once more! Are you interested in soil health on small coastal dairies? This workshop is intended for dairy producers, ranchers, agency partners, technical service providers and land stewards who are interested in learning more about the California Department of Food and Agriculture's Healthy Soils Program. Gold Ridge RCD received grant funding for a CDFA Healthy Soils Program demonstration project at the Ocean Breeze Dairy. The project is in its second year, and we will provide updates on the two carbon beneficial conservation practices being implemented: applying compost on 30.0 acres of grassland and installing two acres of riparian forest buffer. The workshop will take place at the dairy. Directions will be provided upon registration.

Atascadero Creek Study public meeting in review

It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Atascadero Creek Coho Salmon Habitat Study on November 6. We heard: an introduction to the Atascadero Creek Coho Salmon Habitat Study, presented by Gold Ridge RCD an introduction to the Integrated Groundwater and Surface Water Study of the Green Valley/Atascadero Creek and Dutch Bill Creek watersheds, presented by O'Connor Environmental, Inc. an introduction to the Water Quality Monitoring Program in Green Valley/Atascadero Creek watershed presented by California Department of Fish and Wildlife an introduction to the Russian River Salmon Monitoring Program, presented by California Sea Grant For those of you who missed it, or anyone wishing to look back at the presentation slides, presentations and general information about the study has been posted to the RCD website: http://goldridgercd.org/htm/atascadero_study.htm

Environmental Representative Seat Open

The Santa Rosa Plain Groundwater Sustainability Agency (GSA) board is seeking to fill one environmental representative seat on the Santa Rosa Plain GSA Advisory Committee. Santa Rosa Plain residents interested in groundwater are urged to apply. The Advisory Committee provides input and feedback on policies, programs and projects to the Board of the Santa Rosa Plain GSA. This agency was formed to meet the requirements of California’s historic Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA), which went into effect in 2015. Learn more and apply by November 30, 2019 .

UCCE Sonoma County Irrigation Survey

UC Cooperative Extension Sonoma County is looking for growers who are interested in collaborating on a survey of vineyard irrigation water use. The survey will be conducted by UCCE in a manner that insures the anonymity of collaborators and vineyard locations. The purpose is to improve the accuracy of the estimates of applied water currently used by local regulatory bodies charged with managing groundwater. The new deadline to sign up as a collaborator is December 31, 2019. Click here for more information.
