District News:
Spanish Stipend:
The ability to speak and write English and Spanish is a much-needed skill in order to better serve the students and parents of Emporia Schools. Classified and licensed staff are eligible to be considered for the Spanish stipend program.  Candidates will take separate verbal and written exams in Spanish. Depending upon your proficiency levels in Spanish, stipends for licensed staff may be $250 - $1000 per year and stipends for classified staff may be .25 to $1.00 per hour.  You do not have to qualify for both verbal and writing to receive a stipend. Proficiency in just one area will also earn a stipend. If you are interested in more information on how to receive this stipend, please contact Human Resources 341-2330 or if you have questions about the test  or to schedule the test, p lease contact Felix Lizarraga 341-2200.  It is expected that staff members accepting this stipend will serve as an interpreter and/or translator according to their Spanish proficiency level when reasonably asked to do so by their supervisor

Board Approvals:
Board Approves Bond Sale:
Members of the board of education finalized the sale of bonds on Monday evening by voting to approve the Resolution 2020-10. This allows the district to move forward in securing the funds and begin utilizing the $78 million dollars approved by voters for proposed building enhancements.  There is additional excitement among the board and district administrators as bonds were able to be sold at an even lower interest rate of 3.22%. The most recent projections from Piper Jaffray were 3.43% which was also significantly lower than the original estimate in June 2019.  Based on current calculations, this will allow the district to meet the projected half mill increase in the total overall mill levy.  Click here  for additional details on the bond sale agreement.
