Meet MBI's 2017 Board of Directors

MBI would not have celebrated 105 years on April 27th if it weren't for a strong tradition of MBI members giving of themselves to contribute their time, talent and energy to pushing the association forward.  Since the formation of Master Builders of Iowa in 1912, the Association has always been governed by a Board of Directors.  Each Director as they enter the Boardroom removes their 'company hat' and focuses solely on the betterment of the entire industry.  This tradition of dedicated leadership and time honored commitment to the industry is the type of support that will allow MBI to continue hitting milestones for decades to come.

To learn more about the MBI Board of Directors and who is leading the Association in 2017, read a recent MBI Blog post - April 1912...It all started with a group of contractors.

OSHA 10 Hour in Coralville
The Story of MBI
Reminder: Wage Survey Deadline
As we roll into summer and commercial construction projects become even more active with additional craft workers on site, safety should be on the mind of every individual on every project. We have added another 10 Hour OSHA training opportunity to the calendar: July 20-21 in Coralville, Iowa.

The 10 Hour OSHA course provides attendees with the most up-to-date OSHA regulations, proper safety procedures, behavior-based safety practices, and much more! All who attend receive multiple documents to help them comply with OSHA standards, as well as a card of completion issued by the OSHA Institute.

Did you know that in 1912 the fee to join MBI was $2.00 and dues were $1.00 per month? How about that AGC of America (that MBI is a chapter of) was not formed until 6 years after MBI? Today marks the start of a 16 week MBI history lesson on MBI's Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Over a century of individuals have guided our Association with a firm commitment to the industry and vision for the future. The past 105 years have seen the development of many programs and initiatives, all with the interest of Iowa contractors put first.

If you follow MBI on Facebook and/or Twitter, be sure to check out the #StoryofMBI this summer as a fun way to learn a little more about how everything started with a group of building contractors in 1912 and continues today.
Don't forget to participate in the 2017 Master Builders of Iowa Compensation & Benefits Survey. The deadline to submit your data is June 23rd. Don't miss this opportunity to participate and receive a free copy of the survey results.

Though sponsored by Master Builders of Iowa, this survey is being administered by Newport Group (formerly Verisight, Inc.), a national compensation and benefits consulting firm. To maintain confidentiality, Newport administers the survey for MBI and the survey results are mailed confidentially to the designated member of each MBI firm who responds. To protect confidentiality, only Newport Group will have access to specific organization data, and only aggregate data will be reported. Each participating organization will receive a complimentary copy of the final report. ( Please note, non-participants will not have access to the results of this survey.) The Association continues to offer this important service as part of your membership dues.

There is still plenty of time to participate. A reminder email with the survey attached was sent to MBI members yesterday. If for some reason - you have not seen the survey and would like to participate, please contact Laurie Delmott - ldelmott@mbionline.com.

It takes a great deal of commitment, hard work and support to be around for a century.  And that is exactly what the Iowa construction industry has been giving to MBI decade after decade.  A century of individuals have put their company hats aside in order to guide MBI with a commitment to the industry and vision for the future.  MBI would not have celebrated 105 years on April 27th if it weren't for a strong tradition of MBI members giving of themselves to contribute their time, talent and energy to pushing the association forward.  This tradition of dedicated leadership and time honored commitment to the industry is the type of support that will allow MBI to continue hitting milestones for decades to come. >>>Read More

It's pretty easy to say that the MBI conference room is where all the magic happens.  And by magic, I mean hundreds of meetings a year that generate countless ideas and initiatives for the association.  Combine all the MBI Board, Associate Council, committee, staff, and other business meetings, you're probably looking at over 1,000 meetings with over 200 different individuals in one year alone!  It would be fun to know the number of different people that have sat around that table in the past 10, 20, even 50 years.  If you have ever sat in one of those chairs in the MBI conference room, have you taken the time to look around? >>>Read More
It feels like we're in a never-ending race to catch up with 'everyone else' with no finish line in sight.  But, to be fair, I don't think a finish line actually exists when it comes to social media for business. Instead, social media is an ever-changing marketing strategy that requires creative thinking and adaptability. With a little careful planning, a company of any size will benefit from having a social voice. So, here are some helpful reminders for juggling a social media marketing campaign. >>>Read More
