What a year 2019 has been! The Chamber had the best year...yet! Here is a quick recap.

Our membership grew to 180 Members and 21 Cornerstone Members. The First Friday Breakfast averaged 50 in attendance. There were MORE Ribbon Cuttings than any other year!! Congratulations to all of the NEW businesses!!

The community pulled off a HUGE Album Release Party with Trisha Yearwood in August. Many tourism dollars were spent locally to purchase gas, food, gifts from Ms. Yearwood's hometown.  The result for a great turnout was a donation from Ms. Yearwood to cover the expenses to host this party.

Our Annual Deer Festival and Deer Dash was the best to date.  There were over 300 racers, 135 vendors and the weather was wonderful.

Our Smithsonian Team planned for a full year a great grand opening of the Smithsonian Exhibit.  The opening day held children's activities, local vendors on the square and a successful Ribbon Cutting.  The crowd favorite of the day was the recognition of 16 families that have resided in Jasper County for at least 100 years. The Smithsonian Traveling Crossroads Exhibit will be housed at the Visitors' Center until January 11th.

The Chamber is looking forward to a wonderful year of growth in 2020.  Our hope is that you join us!!

Smithsonian Grand Opening...
The Smithsonian Traveling Crossroads Exhibit
From The Monticello News

"Many dignitaries were on hand for the ribbon cutting Saturday to signify the grand opening of the Smithsonian exhibit, Crossroads-Change in Rural America, that will be available for view at the Visitors' Center on the Square from now until January 11.

The exhibit includes interactive displays, and Saturday's festivities included, after the ribbon cutting, a chance to view the exhibit. Then the Color Guard from the American Legion raised the flag, and Centennial families were recognized (see page 2). Later there was a panel discussion about agriculture (see page 2) in the Courthouse, and children's activities in the Bank of Monticello annex. The exhibit is now open.

Numerous people from the U.S. Department of Agriculture were on hand as were local elected officials and the Smithsonian Team. State Rep. Susan Holmes was on hand as was Monticello Mayor Pro-tem Stone Workman and Council persons Jenny Murphy and David Wease.

Commission Chair Carl Pennamon was on hand, as was Commissioner Don Jernigan. The exhibit hours are Monday-Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, contact the Visitors' Center at 706-468-8994."

First Friday Breakfast...

First Friday Breakfast

Our December First Friday Breakfast was sponsored by AT&T.  Mr. Chambers brought information to us about Fixed Wireless Internet in Jasper County.  The presentation was very informative. Many people from the meeting checked their availability to receive the Fixed Wireless Internet that day and have taken advantage of the affordability.

The Chamber is looking for 2020 First Friday Breakfast Sponsors.  The dates for our quarterly networking event are March 6th, June 5th, September 4th, and December 4th.  If you are interested in sponsoring breakfast or need more information, please contact Mandi at the Chamber of Commerce.  jasperchamber@bellsouth.net or 706-468-8994.
