Principal's Message
February 9, 2018
Dear Families and Friends of OLQP:
This week, students have been accomplishing great things. Science Fair projects filled Marian Hall, engineering challenges have been tackled in STREAM, persuasive essays are in progress, benchmark reading assessments are being completed, and much more. Teachers are preparing for mid-term parent conferences and evaluating curriculum, pacing, and strategies to optimize the learning outcomes for each student. Consequently, some adjustments have been made to the calendar in order to ensure that we make the most of the second semester.
The refrain of a song we sometimes sing at Mass is, "We prepare the way of the Lord." At prayer, we are reflecting on what we can do to make Lent a more meaningful liturgical season. We are called to strengthen ourselves spiritually either by charitable actions and/or self-denial. Students are challenged to make a written plan for their Lenten journey. The more we do to prepare, the greater our Easter celebration will be.
Walking the halls of OLQP this week, one would see remnants of the Festival Weekend waiting to be returned to storage. The Festival weekend was a great success and reflects the strength of community and the commitment of staff, families, and friends who value Catholic education. Generosity of time, talent, and treasure made it all come together. It takes all of us working together to make the vision and mission of OLQP a reality. Thank you for being part of the mission and ministry of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic School.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam,
Mrs. Marianne Mechura, M.Ed.
Counting our Blessings...

Science Fair
Each year, OLQP hosts a science fair. Participation is encouraged at all levels but is mandatory for middle school students. Students use the scientific method to make and record observations, form questions and a hypothesis, conduct experiments and record data, analyze data, and draw conclusions. Mentors from the community help by working with students throughout the process. After the OLQP fair, students may opt to submit their projects to the Brazoria County Science Fair.

Spelling Bee
This week, OLQP's Spelling Champions will compete at the county level for the opportunity to advance to the Scripps Houston PBS Bee on April 7, 2018. Saylor Sherrodd and Morgan Buchta have been studying since qualifying at the school level before Christmas. The local competition is organized by BISD and hosted at the Center for the Arts and Sciences at Brazosport College. Best wishes for success to our entrants!
