Harper's Choice Showcases Original Columbia Artists

Sunday, August 13, 2017, 7:30pm
John Levering and Wes Yamaka, popular Columbia artists in the 1970s, turned to art after other careers personifying Columbia's goal to be a place for people to grow.
They opened Columbia's first art gallery and studio called "Eye of the Camel" in the 1970s. As our way of celebrating Columbia's 50th birthday, the Art Gala will feature original works by both artists and will kickoff with a champagne reception and light refreshments.

Art work needed. To loan art for the event, contact Steve Ingley by July 15th @ 410-730-0770 or [email protected].
Howard County's BIKESHARE slated to begin around
July 6, 2017

Howard County will launch the new BIKESHARE program next month. There will be seven Bikeshare stations around Columbia.  One station will be located at the   Oakland Mills Village Center next to the bus stop on Robert Oliver Place.

Bikeshare stations will be located at Howard County General Hospital, Howard Community College, One Merriweather Building, Lakefront (2 locations), Oakland Mills Village Center, and  Blandair Park.

The basic principal of Bikeshare is for users to rent a bike at any station and return a bike to any station. As with any program, there are details for the users, and even an "app" to get you going!

Please refer to this  WEBSITE for complete details. We are excited to have a station located in our community for our residents and those that want to explore Oakland Mills and Blandair Park.

If, after reading the website, you have questions please,  email.

Cul-de-sac Civility
Maintenance of the cul-de-sac islands throughout Columbia is the responsibility of the owners whose homes or driveways face the cul-de-sac island. We encourage residents to take turns mowing or have each family contribute and hire a service (or better yet, a young person in the neighborhood) to take care of the mowing, leaf removal, weeding, etc. The important thing to remember is that this is to be a shared responsibility. Please note: No basketball or other sports equipment, permanent or temporary, may be placed on, in or around the cul-de-sac, as per County code.
Want to Improve Your Cul-De-Sac Island?
Cul-de-sac grants of up to $200 are available to improve the island on your street. More information on this program can be found online.

Athletic Club Temporary Closing
The Athletic Club will be closed this summer beginning on Monday July 31 and will re-open Monday August 28.
