The Auxiliary's mission, to be of service to Veterans and their families, is carried out almost daily by our members in one way or another. In addition to volunteering at VA facilities and community events that benefit Veterans, our Units and Departments are coming up with creative and unique projects and events. Sharing your projects and ideas can inspire other members to do something new in their own communities. Please, send your photos and a brief description of what you do in service to our Veterans in your community to be shared in our newsletter. This month's Zoom meeting is highlighting some of those projects and events. Please join us Thursday evening for inspiration and ideas.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your families!

Like many of our members, this month finds us exceedingly busy. It also gives us the opportunity to gather with fellow auxiliary members, patriots, and family and friends. This past week, I had the privilege of attending I had the pleasure of attending a dinner in Columbus, Georgia with the Unit 428 ladies and their Chapter's Patriots. This weekend our Unit 1000 will cohost our Fifth Annual Purple Heart ball and we will be joined by Patriots and ladies from around our Region. Many of you have participated in parades and ceremonies. Regardless of how busy you've been, I am sure we have all paused to reflect on the service and sacrifice of those dear to us. As we transition from Veteran's Day to and continue this season of thanks, I want you to know I'm thankful for each and every one of you.

Where did the time go?!? It’s hard to believe that we are in the month of November! The hectic chaotic holidays are only weeks away and often we are so busy shopping for gifts and planning for parties, we forget about the most important holiday of all; Thanksgiving. It’s rare that we take the time to be surrounded by family and friends. Our busy lives sometimes overwhelm us so much that we forget to take some personal time and just breathe. Thanksgiving should be a time of gratitude and self-reflection and a time for true and genuine gratitude.
In our family, Thanksgiving begins on November 11
th
. We begin our Thanksgiving holiday by preparing dinner at a nearby Veterans Home where we express our gratitude to the heroes who reside there. We continue Thanksgiving each day until November 28
th
by doing a good deed in honor of a person we are thankful for. And on the actual day of Thanksgiving, we spend the day with family and friends. We talk, laugh, and remember that Thanksgiving is not about a perfectly roasted turkey or a fancy table setting; it’s about the little things and special moments that make us grateful. And I am personally grateful to all of you for your dedication and self-sacrifice that you give to the MOPHA. Remember, when we are able to focus on what is truly important, everyday is Thanksgiving.

Hope this article finds you all happy and healthy. Things for myself and my family are going well. The busy holiday season is upon us and I would like to take this opportunity to share some thoughts about the upcoming rebates, and the process of receiving a rebate.
Rebates are issued in December for the previous year. The are based on the interest earned from our life membership account invested in the TD Ameritrade account.
The criteria for receiving a rebate check is as follows:
- Installation Report submitted by May 31st
- Life Membership Verification Report submitted by Oct 1st
- Finance Report (Unit or Department) submitted by Oct 1st
- ACCEPTED copy of the IRS 990 postcard proof of filing submitted Oct 1st
All of the reports can be found on our website (link below) under FORMS. Please mail the Finance Report and 990 proof of filing to myself at 21500 Nowlin, Dearborn, Mi 48124.(
DO NOT SEND REGISTERED MAIL).
TO ENSURE YOUR UNIT RECEIVES ITS REBATE CHECK
: PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT ALL OFFICERS SUBMITTED ON YOUR REPORTS INFORMATION IS CURRENT. WHEN MAILING YOUR CHECKS, I NEED ACCURATE NAMES, AND ADDRESSES THAT INCLUDES ZIP CODES.
Every year I have checks returned, and not cashed due to incorrect information. I want all of you to get every dollar you deserve!
Hope you all have a blessed holiday season.

Ranking Order of Rules
STUDY CASE:
In the Procedures Manual CHAPTER 5 MEETINGS & CONVENTIONS, Section 5 – Department and National Meetings the statement “The
quorum shall be one-half plus one
of the Executive Committee members” appears in reference to Department Executive Meetings. However, this statement is in conflict with Bylaws Article VI Section 11 which states “6.
One-third of the voting membership of the DEC shall constitute a quorum.
” Which one is right?
The National Association of Parliamentarians recognizes the following Ranking of Rules:
Rules Governing an Assembly (from highest to lowest in authority)
- Law: rules prescribed by applicable law
- Corporate charter: for incorporated groups
- Bylaws or Constitution: basic rules relating principally to itself as an organization
- Rules of order: written rules of parliamentary procedure Special rules of order: specific to organization Parliamentary authority: general book of rules
- Standing rules: administrative details
- Custom
With that guidance in mind, along with RONR which states that “The activity of an organization must be conducted in compliance with its bylaws” the CBL or Bylaws are the guiding authority for our organization over Procedure Manuals, Handbooks or Custom. While the Bylaw Committees endeavor to ensure that changes are made in a consistent manner, errors can/will occur. When that happens, the Ranking Order of Rules provides guidance.
NOTE: “RONR” is the standard abbreviation parliamentarians use to cite Henry M. Robert III and others, Robert's Rules of Order Newly Revised, 11th ed. (Da Capo Press, 2011).

This is the time of Thanksgiving and many of us will be busy preparing for that feast we will share with our family, friends and loved ones. Many of us will also take the time to volunteer to be a Blessing to the less fortunate among us. These individuals often work behind the scenes, they are our hidden Angels. Thank You God for these hidden Angels.
The Bible frequently praises theses unseen Angels. Some give their finances, some their time and others their talents. All are essential to completing the mission of helping those in need.
I give thanks to God for each of you. You are there not only for Thanksgiving but each and every day during the year selflessly serving Veterans and their families. Thank each of you for all you do for the Veterans of the MOPH and their families, and for what you do in your individual communities.

KAY JO BAUCOM, REGION IV PRESIDENT
Hello to all our MOPHA family! Region 4 is hard at work serving those who first served us. It is an honor to represent some of the most dedicated women in the world as I serve as Region 4 President. You have welcomed me, supported me, and continue to mentor and guide me as I learn and grow in this role. A huge heartfelt thank you to each of you! This is what we are about: service, sisterhood and support- for ourselves and others. May we continue to move forward daily with these ideals in place. Hard work done in good faith brings about amazing benefits and all will reap the rewards. Rock on Region 4! The timeliness with which you each respond when requested (forms, etc.) is much appreciated and together we can accomplish unbelievable things!
May God continue to bless our National Leadership Team, our Regions, Departments and Units; no one stands alone. We are family. Realizing the involvement of everyone in so many worthy causes and how busy everyone is, I am highlighting a small portion of the countless good works, fun and fellowship happening in our Region 4. These pictures were sent to me to share, so thank you Departments of Florida and North Carolina and North Carolina Unit 634. I want to spotlight all our Departments and Units in Region 4, so let me know what is happening, and I will proudly share. Every event, or activity is done to honor, serve and support our Patriots and their families, and deserves to be recognized.
God has blessed me with the MOPHA family and I ask that he continue to guide, protect, and bless each of you and our military serving today. We serve with our hands and our hearts together! I am excited about the possibilities, so "Let's Roll".

A Note From Closed New York Unit 17 Member.....
Dear Cheryl
,
Thank you for reaching out to Paula (Stevens). I am her husband John. Paula is not answering as she is currently suffering from Alzheimer’s. The Military Order of the Purple Heart has been a very important part of her life. Her father, Paul Gregware, was an Officer on both the local and state level. In addition, Paul was also a National Finance Officer. Paul and his wife Betty, who also served in the Women’s Auxiliary, attended the National Convention each year until illness made it impossible. Paula has fond memories of attending many of those conferences with her parents.
