President's Letter

For the last ten+ years, the home of our Bar Association has been located at 57 South Broadway in downtown Akron. Filled with character and history, this innovative building was the result of the work of many interested, dedicated members.

During our ownership, we have faced the opportunities and challenges typically associated with old, historic buildings. To better meet those challenges, part of our strategic plan over the past two years authorized the board to create a Building Task Force to assess the current status of such opportunities and challenges.  Led by Marc Merklin and Brian Moore, the Building Task Force concluded that continuing ownership of the Bar building is a positive for our Bar. This task force, however, acknowledged the significant financial impact of maintaining a mortgage balance. Read more....

Practical Tips for Trial Attorneys

This three-hour CLE features Judge James L. Kimbler, retired judge of the Medina County Common Pleas Court, sharing tips for trial attorneys. Judge Kimbler has been a trial judge for over 20 years. During that time, he has conducted over 550 jury trials and hundreds, if not thousands, of non-jury trials. He has brought this experience to life in his book, Practical Tips for Trial Attorneys: A Conversation with Judge James L. Kimbler (Retired). Judge Kimbler has developed continuing legal education seminars based on his book. Come hear the kind of practical advice only an experienced trial judge can give.

Each seminar attendee will receive a complimentary copy of Judge Kimbler’s book and an outline of his presentation. A luncheon and networking reception follows the seminar.

The Director, Lawyer Referral and Information Service administers the Lawyer Referral and Information Service, maintains the LRIS database, develops professional working relationships with LRIS attorneys and clients, and increases the LRIS base of participating attorneys and clients through advertising and other efforts. 23rd Absolutely Positively Final Las Vegas Seminar
Finishes With A Full House!

This marked the Twenty-Third Annual, and Absolutely, Positively Final Workers’ Compensation Seminar in Las Vegas, Nevada.  As in the past, this gathering offered a tremendous opportunity to hear top-shelf speakers in a less formal setting, which fosters a more free exchange of information that crosses the traditional plaintiff-defense barriers. June Fastcase Tip-of-the-Month

Your Akron Bar Fastcase member benefit includes access to the Interactive Timeline. The Timeline displays at the bottom of your results screen and shows all of your search results on a visual map. Governor Fills Two Summit County Court Vacancies

Gov. John R. Kasich filled two vacancies on Summit County courts on June 2.

Jason T. Wells will begin serving as a judge on the Summit County Common Pleas Court on June 27, while Todd M. McKenney will begin serving as a judge on the Barberton Municipal Court on June 19. Read more....

Effective April 6, 2017, Sub. House Bill No. 432 amended the Ohio Revised Code in ways that may affect the way Ohio estate planning and probate attorneys counsel clients. Read more....
