No Dumping Please

Illegal dumping is unsightly for neighbors and families, degrades the environment, and presents a safety hazard for bicyclists and pedestrians. The City of Burlingame would like to remind residents that dumping on the street is illegal and the fines for dumping can be as high as $500.

If you see dumping in progress, please call the Police Department at 650-777-4100. If possible, please note the home or building the person resides in, or the license plate number of any involved vehicles. If you suspect the dumping originates from a particular person or building, contact Code Enforcement at 650-559-7208. For help cleaning up illegal dumping, please contact Public Works at 650-558-7670.

Look for Trick-or-Treaters on the Roads Tonight

The Burlingame Police Department wants to make sure everyone is safe on Halloween. There will be additional officers out tonight to ensure child and community safety. Be extra cautious while trick-or-treating, and report any suspicious activity to the police. Motorists and trick-or-treaters should review the following tips.

Trick-or-Treating Tips
  • Carry a flashlight with fresh batteries after dark.
  • Stay on the sidewalks and out of the streets.
  • Cross only at intersections and designated crosswalks.
  • Walk, don't run.
  • Don’t trample through flower beds and gardens.
  • Walk with your head up and be aware of your surroundings.
  • Only visit well-lit houses. Don’t stop at dark houses.
  • Don’t enter any houses unless you know the people.
  • Don’t approach unfamiliar pets and animals.
  • Always watch for cars backing up or turning.
  • Never accept rides from strangers.
  • Respect other people and their property.
  • Don’t eat any candy until it’s inspected for tampering under bright lights.
  • Avoid candy that has loose wrappings, is unwrapped, has puncture holes, or is homemade.
  • Report any suspicious or criminal activity to an adult or the police.

Halloween Driving Safety Tips
  • Expect delays due to heavy pedestrian traffic.
  • Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods. Children are excited on Halloween and may move in unpredictable ways.
  • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections, on medians, and on curbs.
  • Enter and exit driveways slowly and carefully.
  • Get rid of any distractions (like your phone) in your car so you can concentrate on the road and your surroundings.
  • Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Be especially alert for kids during these hours.
