Reminder to visit the Harper Syllabus webpage for templates, examples, and all related resources. Did you know the syllabus webpage includes grab-and-go verbiage? Visit the webpage to copy/paste required college policy verbiage, optional statements, and student support services information.
With the new semester starting, be prepared for any emergency and watch this video from Environmental Health & Safety and Harper Police. Topics include: fire drills and evacuation duties; severe weather procedures; environmental health, safety, and risk management overview; injury reporting; bomb threats; and active shooter response. Please consider playing this video during the first week of classes and share it as an announcement in Blackboard.
Have an idea for a new project? Want to develop or pilot a program or service, but lack the funding to support it? The Harper College Educational Foundation has up to $100,000 available through the Resource for Excellence (RFE) grant program which could be the answer to those questions. Two upcoming workshops are being offered to help applicants with completing the grant application package.
Save the Date for Tech Week 2020: February 18-21. The Tech Expo will kick off the week on Tuesday, February 18 from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the Academy (Building F, Room F317).
Please mark your calendars and save the date! The Strategic Planning Conference will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at the Westin, Itasca. The themes which emerged from the Fall 2019 strategic planning activities will be validated at this conference. RSVP required, watch for more information.

Meet Ranjani Murali, Diverse Faculty Fellow
Ranjani Murali became a
Diverse Faculty Fellow this past fall, but she has been at Harper since 2015 as an adjunct faculty member teaching English. The first class she ever taught for Harper was an evening class at the Harper Professional Center. But this wasn't her first experience teaching. Like many adjunct faculty, Ranjani was stitching together several jobs. While teaching at Harper, she also taught at DeVry University and in a middle school as a long-term substitute. Teaching middle schoolers challenged her to think more creatively and gave her insight into the K-12 system.

We Are Harper: Mukila Maitha
Geography has been my favorite subject since elementary school, and I have always had a strong interest in nature and the world around me. I had the good fortune of being exposed to diverse cultures growing up in Nairobi, Kenya, and this sparked my interest in the world around me. As a student at Northern Illinois University, I was introduced to GIS by a professor and took advantage of classes and internship opportunities that were offered to begin my GIS journey. This allowed me to land my first professional job as a data analyst and later a GIS programmer for a leading map company.

While in Costa Rica in November 2019, Harper faculty Kathleen Reynolds, Alina Pajtek, and Rich Johnson, presented at a major conference for teachers of English as a foreign language, gave workshops on pedagogical strategies, delivered a keynote address, and finalized the terms of our partnership with Universidad Nacional Campus Sarapiqui.
