Natomas Unified School District is committed to engaging parents/families to support student success. As a reminder, please take a moment to complete a short survey we've created to help us determine what our families value most. American Lakes School Elijah Baza Huerta takes 2nd Place in MLK Essay Contest
Meet Elijah Baza Huerta, seventh-grade student at American Lakes School and 2nd place winner of the Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest presented by the Sacramento Region's MLK Celebration Committee and  Sacramento County Office of Education (SCOE) . Encouraged by his Teacher, Mrs. Connelly, Elijah submitted a 300-word essay on what he does to help others and the ways he reminds others of MLK's legacy and profound impact. We are absolutely in awe of this young writer. Congratulations Elijah!

Kim Taxara Receives Well Deserved Award 
Please join us in recognizing Kim Taxara, Teacher at Natomas High School, for simply making a difference in the lives of students and contributing in a positive way to the Natomas High School community. Last Friday, Superintendent Chris Evans, along with fellow NUSD staff members, surprised her with an award, and her reaction was priceless.
Juanamaria DeAnda named NUSD's Classified Employee of the Year

The month of January has been full of surprises for Juanamaria (Juanna) DeAnda, Office Specialist III at Discovery High School. She gave birth to her first child, she received confirmation that she had been accepted to NUSD's Diverse Teacher Recruitment Program, and on Friday, January 17, she learned from Superintendent Chris Evans that she was selected NUSD Classified Employee Year!

New Feature in Infinite Campus Parent Portal 
We are pleased to announce a new feature of the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. The Campus Portal is designed for you to understand, monitor, and participate in your child's educational process as they work toward college/career readiness. You will now be able to see your student's scores for the following assessments when you log in to Campus Parent.
'Steps to College'
Bilingual University Fair

The countdown is on for the free Steps to College Fair from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the Consulate General of Mexico, 2093 Arena Blvd.

Representatives from distinguished colleges and universities from California and Mexico, as well as state of California higher education experts, and nonprofit higher education organizations and advocates work together each year to help students navigate the college experience and learn about their finance options for higher education. The fair is designed to help all families and students navigate a successful path to college.

H. Allen Hight Holiday
Shopping Spree
with Sacramento Kings Dewayne Dedmon

During winter recess, Sacramento Kings Dewayne Dedmon hosted a holiday shopping spree for H. Allen Hight students. Each child received a $100 Walmart gift card, dinner, and other SWAG items. Watch the attached video below to see how he and fellow Kings staff volunteers helped our students pick out presents on their holiday wish list. Thank you to the Sacramento Kings and PlayWorks for coordinating this opportunity! 
NUSD named 'California Champion' by No Kid Hungry

We're excited and honored to be recognized as one of the top 10 champions for No Kid Hungry in California. Natomas Unified was celebrated for our innovative approach of creating an appealing way to serve children's school meals. Through the district's colorful food truck, known as "The Lunch Box," the Nutrition Services team is able to provide healthy meals to children all year long throughout the Natomas community.
