Spotlight on our Schools - Valleyview

On Thursday evening, December 5th, Valleyview's ExPO students held their annual TREP$ Marketplace. Each student created a product and turned his or her fledgling idea into a business. From the manufacturing to the financing, the marketing to the advertising, and the packaging to the distributing, each young entrepreneur showcased and sold holiday and everyday goods for people of all ages. This event marked the third of its kind, and the students generated a myriad of products. Ornaments were a popular item, as were wooden signs, coasters, candles, and home goods. Shoppers and sellers deemed the evening a success, as many were able to find the perfect homemade stocking stuffer or hostess gift. The ExPO students look forward to next year's Marketplace, and they wish everybody a healthy and safe holiday season!

Builders Club has had a busy month! On Saturday, December 7th, students raised money for Salvation Army outside of Denville Acme, bringing cheer to the community with carols as they rang bells! Mayor Andes even stopped by to support us and snap a photo with some of our volunteers. On Friday, December 13th, Builders Club hosted an ice cream sundae fundraiser to support Valleyview's Adopt-a-Family for the holidays and raised $200 to purchase local restaurant gift cards. We are currently collecting pet supplies for the Denville Animal Shelter; if you would like to donate, please drop them off at the Giving Tree in front of the main office at Valleyview.

The Valleyview Band and Chorus performed its annual Winter Concert on December 17th, at 7:00 pm to a packed house in the Valleyview Gym. The students performed music they have been rehearsing since September. Great job, Ms. Berkowitz and Mr. Priori.

Congratulations to the four Valleyview students who auditioned for the North Jersey Jr. Area Band: Andrew, Anna, Faith, and Ashlyn! All four made it into the honors ensemble; Andrew and Ashlyn even made the first chair on their instruments. They will be performing with this group in January.

On Thursday, December 18th faculty from Morris Knolls High School came down to Valleyview to present to the 8th-grade students regarding options for high school electives and core classes. The 8th-graders will begin the scheduling process for their freshman year schedules in the new year.

Valleyview wrapped up 2019 with several efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle. We've begun the collection of plastic wrap and bags for the second 500 lb TREX Plastic Challenge, assisted with Riverview's Second Chance Plastic Toy Drive, and collected markers and caps for both recycling and future STEAM projects. If you'd like to contribute or find out more, check updates on Denville Schools Green Teams. We're looking ahead to an even better 2020, educating students and families on changes to Denville's Recycling Program and reducing waste in the cafeteria and throughout the school.

The STEAM Challenge program is moving full-steam ahead! December's Ultimate Road Trip gives students the freedom to choose their theme and route while keeping a close eye on their budget. There's still time to join! Our January Challenge, Architecture, will encourage students to think creatively, problem-solve, and construct a 3-D Scale Model. Students of all grades are welcomed to join the monthly program; Valleyview's Science Teachers can provide additional info.

This time of year has a way of reminding us of the things that matter most such as family, sharing good fortune with others in need, and taking time to relax and recharge with friends and family. The Valleyview Family wishes everyone a wonderful holiday season. May your new year be filled with joy and happiness.
