 Jersey Water Works Updates
JOIN A COMMITTEE AND HELP SET THE 2018 WORK PLAN!

Jersey Water Works' four programmatic implementation committees are meeting individually to establish a work plan for realizing Our Shared Goals in 2018. Supporting members are invited to join committees and contribute to transforming the state's inadequate water infrastructure.
  • The Green Infrastructure committee will meet on Feb. 26 at 1:30 PM at North Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, 17th Floor, 1085 Raymond Blvd., Newark
  • The Combined Sewer Overflow committee will meet on March 1 at 11:00 AM at Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, 600 Wilson Ave., Newark
  • The Asset Management and Finance committee met on Feb. 13 and will meet next in April.
  • The Education and Outreach committee met on Feb. 16 and will meet next in April.

New Resources 

Capital Region Water has released a draft of its  City Beautiful: H2O  program plan. The 20-year plan reduces combined-sewer overflows and upgrades the separate sewer and stormwater systems in Harrisburg, Pa. 

Holistically Analyzing the Benefits of Green Infrastructure  (Maryland Environmental Finance Center)
This document is intended to help smaller local governments, particularly those with MS4 stormwater programs, to evaluate the benefits of green infrastructure. It details how combining green and gray infrastructure systems allows local governments to lower costs, solve systemic water challenges and enhance a community's quality of life.

Water Needs through 2040 for New Jersey Public Community Water Supply System (Dan Van Abs, Rutgers University)
This report provides an estimate of water demands for each public community water supply system in New Jersey to the year 2040. The results will support future water supply planning by NJDEP, including the Statewide Water Supply Plan.

Asset Management Definitions Guidebook  (American Water Works Association)
This guidebook defines terms commonly used in water utility asset management practice. American Water Works Association's Asset Management Committee developed it to help improve learning, consistency, and communication in the water industry.
Funding Opportunities

New Jersey Health Initiatives: Upstream Action Acceleration  (Next deadline: March 1)
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's NJHI Upstream Action Acceleration program supports existing cross-sector coalitions to adopt and implement "upstream" environmental-, policy- and systems-change strategies, and accelerate their work in areas they have already identified as priorities to improve community health. The program will award a total of 16 individual grants up to $100,000.

Environmental Education Grant (Next deadline: March 15)
U.S. EPA's   Environmental Education Local Grants program supports locally-focused environmental education projects that increase public awareness and knowledge about environmental and conservation issues and provide the skills that participants need to make informed decisions and take responsible actions toward the environment. U.S. EPA Region 2 expects to award three or four grants for between $50,000 and $100,000.  

Roots for Rivers Reforestation Grant and Technical Assistance Program (Next deadline: March 16)
The Nature Conservancy is partnering with Sustainable Jersey to offer a Roots for Rivers Reforestation Grant and Technical Assistance program . The program will support municipal or school district efforts to undertake their own floodplain reforestation initiative on public or private land. Program participants will receive technical assistance to design restoration projects and funding to cover the material costs of floodplain reforestation. Projects costing between $1,000 and $20,000 are eligible. An informational webinar will be held Thursday, Feb. 22, at 1:30 PM.

American Water Environmental Grant Program (Next deadline: March 26)
American Water Company's Environmental Grant program  offers funding for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and groundwater supplies in local communities. Project activities and outcomes should address a watershed or source water protection need in the local community within American Water service areas. Maximum grant amount: $10,000.
