The Funders Census Initiative is pleased to continue this briefing series on census messaging testing results. Last year, national field partners were funded to conduct get-out-the-count messaging research to identify messages that resonate with hard-to-count communities. Click here to register.

RESOURCES
Research, Resources, and Updates
  • MAP has released the latest version of the National Movement Report, a comprehensive and standardized look at the finances for the LGBT movement across approximately 40 major LGBT advocacy organizations.
  • A new study from the Family Acceptance Project (FAP) finds that LGBTQ young people who experience sexual orientation change efforts during adolescence report that parents often act as gatekeepers to conversion therapy interventions.
  • Global Philanthropy Project (GPP) released a new report, Religious Conservatism on the Global Stage: Threats and Challenges for LGBTI Rights, documenting the main conservative strategies, discourses, funding sources, and actors opposing SOGI rights globally.
  • The Philanthropic Closet, a new report by Funders for LGBTQ Issues that highlights the findings on sexual orientation and gender identity from the inaugural Diversity Among Philanthropic Professionals (DAPP) Survey, was recently featured in The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
Requests for Proposals
  • The Soros Equality Fellowship aims to support emerging mid-career professionals who will become long-term innovative leaders influencing the racial justice field. The fellowship award provides individuals with a grant of $100,000 to support production of an innovative racial justice project over the course of 18 months. Proposals are due by January 10th, 2019.
  • The Arcus Foundation announced a Request for Concepts, part of a new streamlined process for organizations to apply for LGBTQ social justice funding. Funding will be available for work focused on the Southern United States, East and Southern Africa, the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. The deadline for responses is January 22, 2019.
  • The Open Society Public Health Program invites concept notes from civil society organizations and coalitions to advocate for sex workers' health and human rights in connection to litigation efforts to challenge the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act (FOSTA) and the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act (SESTA). This call offers unrestricted, organizational support. Funding will be for a period of up to two years, and total funding will be between $50,000-$100,000. Concept notes are due January 31, 2019.
  • The Technical Assistance (TA) Fund at the Crossroads Fund supports specific technical assistance needs of smaller organizations. This grants program focuses on projects that reach beyond a group's regular, ongoing work to build the organization's internal capacity. The maximum grant in this program is $3,000. The deadline for applications is February 15, 2019.
  • The newly established All For NC Fellowship is a 12-month program designed to provide funding, coaching and mentoring to young people who have a vision and plan that could contribute to a better life for North Carolina's people and communities. Fellowships will begin in Summer/Fall 2019 and end in Summer/Fall 2020. Up to five Fellows will be selected for each cohort. Applications are due January 25th, 2019.

  • Additional Mobilize Power Fund Grants Announced

    The Mobilize Power Fund, a rapid response fund at Third Wave Fund, recently announced grants from the September - October grants cycle. Grantees ranged from Black Love Resists in the Rust to support a grassroots campaign to combat police violence in Buffalo, NY - to Momma's Village supporting community response to Hurricane Florence.   • Defending the Dream Fund (DDF) Announces Third Round of Grants

    The Defending Freedom Fund at the Hill-Snowdon Foundation announced its third round of grants totaling $525,000 to 35 organizations advancing justice, including Familia Trans Queer Liberation Movement and Women With a Vision. These grants support innovative and urgent efforts by diverse grassroots organizations across the country working to protect communities under attack by the current Administration.

After nearly 14 years leading Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) in the U.S., Scott Campbell will depart the foundation to pursue other opportunities. Thank you for your leadership, Scott, and best of luck on your next adventure!
This fall we made some exciting staffing changes. Andrew Wallace was promoted to an expanded role of Research and Communications Officer. Luis R. Ramirez was promoted to his new role of Research and Communications Associate. Congrats to you both!
