Just like humans have their favorite type of weather, so does grass. Some people love colder weather, and some people love warm weather. Turfgrass is the same! There are different zones throughout the United States that are classified as a cool-season zone, a warm-season zone, and a transition zone. You can see this diagram to the left.
Cool-season turfgrasses, found in the cool-season zone, are grasses that thrive in temperatures between 60 and 75 degrees. Different types of cool-season turfgrasses are bentgrass, fine and tall fescus, Kentucky bluegrass, annual ryegrass and perennial ryegrass. At the SoccerPlex our cool season grasses are Kentucky Bluegrass and perennial ryegrass. SoccerPlex fields that are Kentucky Bluegrass and perennial ryegrass are 1-8, 10, 11, 21, 22.
In the warm-season zone, the warm-season grasses thrive in temperatures between 80 and 95 degrees. The warm-season grass at the SoccerPlex is Bermudagrass. Fields 9, and 12-17 are all Bermudagrass fields. Other types of warm-season grasses are bahiagrass, carpetgrass, St. Augustine, and zoysiagrass.
