Nearly 75 years ago, Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne penned “Let it Snow,” with which I’ve taken some literary liberties. As you wrap up your final exams, post final grades, and get ready for some time away, I hope that the weather doesn’t keep you tied to your chairs. Go out and play – the interesting problems will still be there – and you will return refreshed. However, in case you get snowed-in, just sing along; you probably know the tune:
Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the lab is so delightful
Over break there’s no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
Well, we don’t have waste disposals
So, I wrote some draft proposals
But Cayuse won’t let them go
Let it snow, let it snow
When I finally click “upload”
How I'll hate going out in the storm
When I confirm with my unique code
All the way home I'll be warm
Well I’m finally done brainstorming;
My ideas are non-conforming
And as long as we’ve got airflow
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
It was this or the Element Song (in honor of the International Year of the Periodic Table – 150 years since Mendeleev’s Periodic Laws paper).
Have a safe and relaxing winter break. Happy Holidays!
