We are not alone!
The importance of The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) became evermore apparent when I visited with the Peruvian Minister of Finance.
On a recent visit to Lima, Peru, I enjoyed
spending a leisurely luncheon with
Alfredo Thorne
Minister of Finance and friends at his ocean front home near Punta Hermosa.
Peru was recently the recipient of torrential rains and massive flooding adding to their homeless population. We have been lucky since Kaua`i has not had a recent disaster since Hurricane Iniki. This trip drove home the fact that lack of affordable housing is not just a Hawai`i and Mainland problem but is in fact a worldwide one. A predicament that indeed may be overcome by reaching across borders and seeking advice and solutions from other nations around the world.
