Updates, What's Next - Magnolia Beautification Project
Happy holidays!   During this most wonderful time of year, we extend a big thank you to our supporters, donors, and the community. 2019 was a monumental year for the Magnolia Beautification Project. We are working together to improve the vibrancy and character of our Magnolia Village. We wish all of our local businesses, service providers, and neighbors a joyous holiday season and 2020 will mark a new look and feel for Magnolia Village – all due to you and your support. Thank you.
Magnolia Beautification Projects in Full Swing
Phase I implementation of the Magnolia Beautification Project is steadily on pace and helping to make our Magnolia Village a great place to do business and engage with family and friends.

On December 1st, the city of Seattle awarded final approval of the Department of Neighborhood matching grant in support of the project. Funding of Phase I of the Magnolia Beautification is in part provided by the Neighborhood Matching Fund from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods .

In addition, the city’s Department of Transportation upheld the permit that approved the first phase of the Magnolia Beautification Project. The Magnolia Beautification Committee members look forward to continued collaboration with city’s arborist and other urban specialists in the months ahead, and as the project is implemented. The poles for the flowering hanging baskets have been ordered and should be arriving for installation in February 2020. The current green benches on McGraw Street between 32nd and 33rd Avenues will be removed, cleaned and spruced up and replaced over the next month.

SAVE THE DATE: The MBC will be ready to publicly celebrate the completion of Phase 1 on Saturday, June 6th while work continues on Phases II and III.
City of Seattle – Arborists, Sidewalks, and Partnership
I n late November, one of the Magnolia trees planted along McGraw Street was removed by the city of Seattle’s Department of Transportation. The city's removal of the damaged tree was based on the recommendation of the city’s arborist. The tree was damaged earlier in 2019 by a delivery truck and suffered from the loss of several major branches. In addition, the city pruned other Magnolia trees to ensure protection from the parking of high-profile vehicles and will be making a number of safety improvements to the sidewalk in the same area of the Village. The Magnolia Beautification Project has brought some welcomed attention from the city in the shared efforts to make the Village attractive, welcoming, and safe for residents and visitors alike. The tree will be replaced by the city and the planting and maintenance of a different variety of Magnolia will be managed by the city of Seattle. Finally, the flowerpots that dotted the sidewalks have been repurposed to other areas in Magnolia and will continue to bring blossoming beauty to the neighborhood.

2020 will see the official launch of the next two phases of the Magnolia Beautification Project. The project includes five phases of beautification projects that will create a fun, flower-filled streetscape with comfortable seating and bistro lighting for residents and visitors to better shop, dine and enjoy our Magnolia Village.

The MBC is preparing all the required documents and getting ready to seek review and approval from the city of Seattle for the Phases II and III. In addition, the MBC is accepting donations to the next two phases.
