Annual Advent Wreathmaking This Sunday

Our St John's Advent Wreathmaking event is this Sunday, November 24, beginning after the 8:00 a.m. service and continuing after the 9:15 a.m. service! Wreaths and candles will be available for $5 each. Come celebrate the upcoming Advent season with yummy cookies as you create.
We will need help cutting greens the day before, and on the day of the event. Please contact Ayana at agrady@stjohnstampa.org if you can help (or if you can let us borrow your clippers for the event)! |
Bishop's Advent Quiet Day

Join Bishop Dabney Smith for a day of pre-holiday reflection at DaySpring on Tuesday, December 3, for Advent Quiet Day. The day, which begins at 10:00 a.m., includes teaching sessions, lunch, personal time, and walkabouts on the Manatee River campus. Individuals and groups are welcome. The cost, which includes lunch in Curry Hall, is $10. Visit the diocese's website to learn more. |
Ordination of the Rev. Deacon Michael Cannon this Saturday

The Rt. Rev. Dabney T. Smith will Ordain the Rev. Deacon Michael Cannon to the Sacred Order of Priests in St. John's Church this Saturday, November 23, at 11:00 a.m. All are invited and encouraged to attend. A graduate of The School of Theology at
Sewanee, Michael comes to us from St. Andrew's Church in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
A reception honoring Michael and his wife, Erika, will follow the Ordination service in the parish hall. If you would be willing to bring a dish or help in another way with the reception, please be in touch with Sara Stone at sarabstone@yahoo.com.

Interfaith Thanksgiving at Rodeph Sholom

Join us Monday, November 25, at Congregation Rodeph Sholom for a communal gathering to celebrate the numerous blessings that all of us have been given in our lives. We will begin at 7:00 p.m. Our two communities will gather the week of Thanksgiving to celebrate our faith, our community, and our gratitude. We will be collecting food and money for Metropolitan Ministries so please bring nonperishable food and/or money for this great organization in our community.

Women's Mid Morning Bible Study: Final 2019 Session

The Women's Mid Morning Bible Study continues their study of the Old Testament Book of Isaiah. The group invites you to come enlarge your understanding as they follow Interpretation Bible Study's
Isaiah
by Gary Light.
The group meets on alternate Tuesdays in the Lowry Room beginning at 10:00 a.m. The lesson time is 10:15 to 11:15 a.m.
On Tuesday December 3, the Rev. Don Goodheart will guide their study of Isaiah 66, "YHWH and All Flesh," the final chapter in Interpretation Bible Studies Isaiah by Gary Light. This is the last session for 2019, the group will meet again in January 2020.

Cornerstone Christmas!
St John's annual Cornerstone Kids Christmas Party for the kids of Cornerstone, Inc, held at St James House of Prayer Episcopal Church, will be on Tuesday, December 10, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.. St John's EYC will not meet this Sunday, November 24, because most of the group will be out of town! We'll be back on Sunday, December 1, with Middle Schoolers continuing their Kid President lessons and High Schoolers learning from clips of the TV show Felicity.
Our annual EYC Tacky Christmas Party and White Elephant Gift Exchange will be on Sunday, December 15 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. at Discovery House (combined 6th-12th graders)! Come in your tackiest Christmas outfit with a fun or wacky WRAPPED Christmas present worth no more than $10 to $15. Invite your friends!

St. John's Giving Tree 2019: Updates
|
It's time to shop for the children who attend Cornerstone Kids, the local after-school program supported by our parish. This Sunday, look for the Christmas tree in the courtyard between/after services. There will be more ornaments to choose from this year: RED, WHITE, and BLUE. If you want to buy toys for a child, you'll choose a red ornament(s). If you want to buy pajamas and/or socks, you'll choose a white ornament(s). If you want to buy a $20 Wal-Mart gift card, you'll choose a blue ornament(s).
Also, on Monday, December 16,
at 2:30 p.m., helpers are needed to transport all the gifts to Cornerstone Kids. Please contact Deacon Michael at mcannon@stjohnstampa.org or by phone at 397.1005 if you can help with transport.
