WHY IT MATTERS:
As described in detail in a previous Time for Action, the bill creates a process for all Federal Firearms Licensees to be certified by Illinois State Police. IL State Police can inspect the Gun Dealers once/year. The bill incorporates provisions for electronic record keeping and safe storage. Requires persons who sell guns privately to maintain proper transaction records or face penalties. Provides penalties for not checking for valid FOID cards.  Requires gun dealers to Install surveillance equipment, maintain electronic inventory, anti-theft measures and employee training.

This bill passed the Senate with bipartisan support largely due to your efforts in calling your Senators to support the bill! Now the bill has been assigned to the House Judiciary-Criminal Committee and will likely be heard on Thursday, May 24th at 10:00AM.
  • Also, please call your Representative and ask her/him to support the bill; if they say yes ask them to co-sponsor this important piece of legislation.
