Do Your Homework!
Before you hire a contractor, be sure to ask to see their license. Hiring an unlicensed contractor may put you at risk for shoddy construction and higher costs down the road. Their work may not meet local building codes, construction standards and permitting requirements. And if the contractor or an employee is injured while on your property, YOU may be held liable for these injuries as unlicensed contractors often do not carry insurance and may not be bonded. To verify a license, check the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation website or call the Maryland Home Improvement Commission at 410-230-6309.
