Cookie Decorating
On Sunday, Dec. 8th St. Sarkis Church Sunday School and The Ladies Guild hosted their annual Christmas Cookie Decorating Brunch. The guests were treated to a wholesome meal, which was meticulously prepared by the committee members.

The children were quite anxious to display their cookie decorating talents, soon they were given their beautiful boxes filled with plain cookies and decorating supplies.

Just when the kids were finishing their activity a special guest made an appearance to add to the excitement of the afternoon. Our special guest was none other than Santa.

He spread some cheers and danced with the children. As Santa waved goodbye, the kids were left wondering if Santa thinks whether they "have been good or bad".

This Advent Season
An A dvent tree will proudly display the names of families or individuals who have chosen to sponsor each week's message. By making a donation during Advent of  $100.00 or more  your name will be displayed on the Advent tree. The messages of the season should be kept in our hearts all year.

Advent is a season of penitence, anticipation, and preparation. Advent serves as a reminder of the original anticipation of the birth of Christ, as well as the anticipation for Christ's return. Ideally, Advent should be a time of quiet reflection and meditation. In modern times the period leading to Christmas is far from calm, and often is stressful and frenetic. It is a good time to remember to pause and reflect on the proper observation of the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Don't get trapped in the spree of Christmas shopping this Advent season. Set your priorities straight and follow these six paths. Get rich in spirit and prepare a place in your heart for Jesus to be born.
We hope you will participate in the new initiative.
Prayerfully,
Fr. Nareg Terterian
Pastor

THE FUTURE IS HERE ??!!
Well, not quite yet, but on its way.
For the Starter Girls, our new team, their 2 nd game showed noticeable improvement. Playing against a much taller and more experienced Armenian Presbiterian Church team, the girls showed improvement by creating scoring opportunities.  Lucyne Seoylemezian made team history by scoring its first 2 points for the team, and Ashley Garzilli and Araxi Kaligian added to the score in the second half.
But even in a losing effort, the girls and parents alike were all smiles and looking forward to the next game/adventure.
Let's Go St. Sarkis.

THE SECOND EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE HEBREWS (1.1-14)
In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.
For to which of the angels did God ever say,
"You are my Son; today I have become your Father"? Or again, "I will be his Father, and he will be my Son"? And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, "Let all God's angels worship him." In speaking of the angels he says, "He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire." But about the Son he says, "Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy." He also says, "In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.
They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.
You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end." To which of the angels did God ever say, "Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet"? 14Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (17.1-10)
Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. So watch yourselves.
"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"
He replied, "If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it will obey you.
"Suppose one of you had a servant plowing or looking after the sheep. Would he say to the servant when he comes in from the field, 'Come along now and sit down to eat'? Would he not rather say, 'Prepare my supper, get yourself ready and wait on me while I eat and drink; after that you may eat and drink'? Would he thank the servant because he did what he was told to do? So you also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, 'We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.'

ST. JAMES OF NISIBIS
This Saturday (December 14) is the Feast of St. James (Hagop) of Nisibis (Mdzbin). He participated in the first ecumenical council in Nicaea (325), where he earned great respect from the Emperor Constantine and the other attendees. He was born and died in the city of Nisibis located in what is now southeastern Turkey, an important early Christian center in Asia Minor and a transit point of the caravans traveling east and west.

James is one of the most beloved saints in the Armenian Church. He is also honored by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Syriac Orthodox Church, the Coptic Church, and the Eastern Catholic and Roman Catholic Churches. He was ordained Bishop of Nisibis in 320 AD.

St. James sought to find Noah's Ark as proof for skeptics. On the eve of his ascent to the summit, an angel appeared and told him that he need not climb to the summit and gave him a piece of the Ark. The piece is kept at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The heavenly hosts rejoiced at the greatness of your feats by which you in the flesh became like the angels on high; we have you as intercessor for us before the Father in heaven. And we with a joyful voice celebrate your holy memory. O venerable witness of Christ, holy bishop James; we have you as intercessory for us before the Father in heaven. You decided on severe toils to see Noah's Ark and from the angel's hand received a portion of the wood which served the human race as salvation; we have you as intercessor for us before the Father in heaven."

(Canon to St. James, Bishop of Nisibis, from the Liturgical Canons of the Armenian Church)
