STARR Coalition at the
CNS Summit 2019
Another wonderful year spending time with old friends and creating new partnerships at the CNS Summit. This year we welcomed hundreds of attendees to our incredible booth. Many of you shed your inhibitions and stepped up to the mic in the our Silent Karaoke booth. For each person who sang a song, ClinEdge and Verified Clinical Trials donated to the advocacy group of the singers choice. We are distributing thousands of dollars to over 15 advocacy groups. Were you a #RockSTARR this year?
Captain Parker, the greatest therapy dog ever, joined us again this year to give out wet kisses and unconditional love. He knows how to melt the stress away!
We brought back the Auditory Hallucination Simulation for individuals to experience auditory hallucinations associated with brain disorders such as schizophrenia. It is a troubling yet profound experience. It reminds us of the important work we must do to find new therapies to alleviate these sometimes devastating symptoms.
On Saturday afternoon, leaders from across the research industry and advocacy met to attend The STARR Coalition Breakout Session. We discussed the STARR Site Certification, a process to assist research sites in the adoption and implementation of best practices in the areas of language, engagement with advocacy, suicide prevention, strengths assessments, stigma reduction, workgroup participation and more. We also awarded innovative organizations and programs changing the conversation around cutting-edge CNS research.
And the award goes to...
Syneos Health awarded CRO of the Year for their innovative work with The STARR.
Sage Therapeutics awarded Sponsor of the Year. Accepting is Sarah Titus, Senior Manager, Clinical Operations.
Heather Beitz and Zach Mitchell of iResearch Atlanta take home the Site of the Year Award. Congratulations!
Adam Simmons of Alkermes was honored for his innovative approach to clinical research and tireless work to promote cutting-edge research in the CNS space. Adam challenges conventional wisdom and lends his voice for change.
Accepting the Advocate of the Year award for NAMI New York State is Matthew Shapiro. Matthew introduced legislation inspired by our STARR 911 program to help with suicide prevention.
MIchael Pollack of Depression Bipolar SUpport Alliance of South Florida awarded Alexandria Wise-Rankovic the Lew Yagodnik Award for her fearless advocacy in working to improve the lives of those living with CNS disorders. She deserved it!
