West High School Students Visit the Mayor
At the request of Mayor Paul Soglin, a select group of West High School, Project SOAR Students recently visited City Hall to share their wisdom.
During the hour exchange, the youth provided insight regarding a host of issues and concerns.
The dialog focused on action steps to help young people engage in positive activities. Topics of what teens want and need in their neighborhoods and how the Mayor's Office in specific (and government in general) could help youth achieve their goals were thoroughly addressed.
The youth were accompanied by West High School staff members Sean Gray and
Corvonn Gaines a
nd 100 BMM mentors, Amos Anderson, Emanuel Scarbough, Wayne Strong, Edward Murray and Floyd Rose.
In support of this effort were Tariq Saqqaf, Neighborhood Resource Coordinator, Enis Ragland, Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, Gloria Reyes, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, Civil Rights and Community Services.

Project SOAR Mentor, Educator, and Mentee Recognition Ceremony
For the sixth consecutive year, the 100 Black Men of Madison recognized and celebrated individuals who demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the continual improvement of youth, based upon the fundamental motivation of inspiring student success.
Additionally, those youth who have achieved exceptional progress in the areas of academic outcomes, school attendance and behavior were commemorated at the recently conducted, Project SOAR Mentor, Educator and Mentee Recognition Ceremony staged at the Pyle Center on the campus of the University of Wisconsin Madison.

Alder Samba Baldeh Elelected
Vice President of the Madison Common Council
At the 18 April
meeting of the Mayor Common Council, 100 Black Men of Madison member, Alder Samba Baldeh (17
th
Aldermanic District) was elected Vice President.
Serving his second term, Alder Baldeh has supported and advocated for strong neighborhoods, strong families and funding for after schools programs & services for the most vulnerable citizens of our Community.
In general, Alder Baldeh has been supportive of funding for community groups to help address issues faced particularly by communities of color. In specific, Brother Baldeh was a successful advocate for the new library that will be erected in 2020.
This facility is expected to take the form of a multi purpose center that provides educational and economic access points for senior citizens, older youth and young adults.
Alder Baldeh serves as a member of the Board of Park Commissioners, City-County Liaison Committee, Common Council Executive Committee, Community Development Block Grant Committee, Digital Technology Committee and Sister City Collaboration Committee.

100 BMM Annual Golf Outing
Oaks Golf Course
The Annual Golf Outing of the 100 Black Men of Madison will be staged Monday, 31 July, at The Oaks Golf Course, 4740 Pierceville Road, Cottage Grove, WI 53527.
Proceeds from this event will be utilized to support the 100 BMM's commitment to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African-American Community based on the precepts of respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity.

23rd Annual Back to School Celebration
Madison College (Truax Campus)
The 23nd Annual Back To School Celebration will be held from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 Noon at Madison College - Truax Campus (1701 Wright Street, Madison, WI) Saturday, 12 August 2017.
Our goal is to ensure a wonderful & meaningful start of the 2017 - 2018 school year for all students of our Community.
Over the past 22 years, the 100 Black Men of Madison has provided more than 32,000 backpacks filled with school supplies to area youth.
During 2017, the Back to School Celebration will endeavor to provide school supplies
and this year,
"vital services and exposures"
to more than two (2000) thousand economically disadvantaged youth and their families.
In preparation for the distribution of school supplies at the 2017 Back To School Celebration, the Annual Stuffing Party will be held on 10 August 2017, at Madison College.
Last year, more than 200 individuals representing 34 partner organizations as well as numerous individuals of our Community assisted members of the 100 Black Men of Madison in this preparatory activity.

Scholarship Gala
100 Black Men of Madison
The Annual Scholarship Gala of the 100 Black Men of Madison will be staged Friday, 22 September in support of the "100 Scholars" Scholarship Program.
This premier event will feature a social hour, elegant cuisine, a raffle, an auction, and much more. The net proceeds from this event will be used to fund the youth scholarship efforts of the 100 Black Men of Madison.
