The TNDC office team donned pink to take a stand against bullying on Pink Shirt Day on February 22, 2017, supporting a Canada-wide initiative. Bullying is a major problem in our schools, workplaces, homes, and over the internet. On Pink Shirt Day Canadians across the country at work and schools wear pink t-shirts to symbolize that as a society we will not tolerate bullying. The initiative shows victims of bullying they are not alone, there are people who care, and there is help and support. Proceeds from t-shirt purchases fund programs that support children's healthy self-esteem organizations to teach children empathy, compassion and kindness towards both others and themselves.  Read more

Dease Lake residents and commercial businesses can now participate in waste management recycling as part of a pilot project being led by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure in cooperation with  other government agencies. Cardboard, paper, newspaper, magazines, glass, plastic and metal food, cleaning and household containers are among the items that can be recycled at the Dease Lake landfill. TNDC is pleased to participate in this important program, which will help reduce our corporate environmental footprint. As the recycling system gains momentum, it will increase recycling and composting opportunities in the community, reducing landfill volumes and environmental impacts. Moving forward, the project team will be examining in more depth how commercial waste is managed.  Read more

TNDC was pleased to participate in the annual Tahltan Employment Fair, held March 31 and April 1 in Dease Lake. This annual event brings together community members from throughout Tahltan territory to learn about employment opportunities. Approximately 100 people attended. TNDC was one of  20 organizations that participated, which included exploration, mining, construction and supply companies, post-secondary institutions and the RCMP, sharing information about their companies and the types of employment and training opportunities they offer.  The event enabled TNDC to connect with Tahltan members, our business partners and mining resource companies involved in exploration, development and mine operations .  Read more

Jerry Asp, TNDC's first President and CEO (from 1985 to 1993) and a prominent western Canadian Indigenous leader was recognized with the 2017 Inspire Award in the Business and Commerce category. The Indspire Awards honour extraordinary Indigenous People, recognizing professionals and youth who demonstrate outstanding career achievement, and represent the highest honour the Indigenous community bestows upon its own achievers. Jerry was recognized for his commitment to enhancing the quality of life for Indigenous peoples through the creation of new business opportunities and development of skills and capacity within Indigenous communities, as well as his proud Indigenous culture and ties to the land.  Read more

In January each year, the Association for Mineral Exploration of British Columbia holds its annual Roundup conference in Vancouver. It brings together stakeholders in the exploration and mining industry, including mine operators, developers, explorers, service providers, equipment suppliers and government officials. For TNDC, Roundup serves as a valuable opportunity to meet with the various stakeholders who are active in Tahltan territory. TNDC hosts an annual private reception during Roundup that brings our management, board and Tahltan leadership together with our stakeholders. The function is very important in strengthening partnerships and building relationships. This year's reception served as an opportunity to introduce new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Arendt, and thank outgoing CEO Garry Merkel. Read more
