Sunny Art for Sunrise Grocery



Westchase District's latest public art installation is a mural by artist Larry Crawford. Entitled "Pour out a Little Love," the new mural can be found on the west-facing wall at Sunrise Grocery, on the northeast corner of Elmside and Meadowglen.

The word "Love" is written in a dozen different languages representing the diverse cultures found in Westchase District. Brightly-colored s treams stretch from end to end, completely transforming an otherwise blank brick wall. The owners of Sunrise Grocery signed a license agreement allowing Westchase District to paint and maintain the mural.
 
The art faces Elmside Drive, which will receive a new shared-use pedestrian path next year.



Kaleidoscope businesses relocating within Westchase District; wrecking ball coming

The Kaleidoscope Shopping Center, located at 10614 Westheimer Road (at Blue Willow) has been home to a variety of small businesses since it was first built in the mid-1980s -- hair salons, nail salons, a dance studio, fitness studio, insurance agencies, even travel agencies (remember them?). At one time, a Ninfa's restaurant served diners on the adjoining pad site. 

The 60,000-square-foot-center and the former restaurant location will soon be demolished to make room for an as-yet-unannounced redevelopment.

We're pleased to report that most of the Kaleidoscope's current tenants have relocated to other office buildings and retail centers in Westchase District. Here is where you can find your favorite Kaleidoscope businesses in their new locations:

Cieran Simon, aka "Mr. C" has operated his Westchase Tavern in the Kaleidoscope since 2003. He and his neighborhood clientele celebrated the tavern's last night in the Kaleidoscope last week. "We had an unbelievable night on Halloween," said Simon. He's keeping the Westchase Tavern name and transferring most of the decor to the new location on Wilcrest. His current staff will be serving up pints and appetizers at the new location as soon as the space is built-out and receives its city permits. Westchase Tavern was voted the "Best Happy Hour" in our 2019 Best of Westchase  contest.

As for the Kaleidoscope, demolition will begin soon.  The timeline for the new development is unknown, but you can read about it FIRST here in The Wire.

Pape-Dawson Engineers Celebrate 10 years in Westchase District

On October 2, Pape-Dawson Engineers celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Houston office. The civil engineering consulting firm opened its doors to honor clients and laud the dedication and commitment of its team.

Pape-Dawson has officed in Westchase District for more than nine years and has grown to a staff of 107 employees providing expertise in land development, water resources, transportation, surveying and environmental services. They are located at 10350 Richmond Avenue, Suite 470.

Farmers Market celebrates 6th anniversary 

Congratulations to the Westchase District Farmers Market and especially our manager John Carey on the 6th anniversary of the market. That's 300 weeks of bringing you farm-fresh produce, eggs, honey and meat. Over the years, we've added vendors who create specialty items to bring to the market including olive oils, jams, essential oils, dog food, soaps, jewelry and more. You can also pick up dinner on Thursday evenings thanks to vendors who offer carry-out barbecue, Indian food and tamales. 

We'll be closing at 6:00 pm starting this week (you can thank that whole "fall back" thing), so shop early. It's a new market every week. Join us this Thursday and help us kick off our 7th year!

Save the Date! Westchase District Real Estate Forum coming in 2020

Westchase District will be hosting a commercial real estate forum on February 12, 2020 to share all our exciting project news with the real estate community.
