"What's Your Story?" Youth Video Contest Announces Winners!

Trend Micro announced winners of their 2017 "What's Your Story?"™  youth video contest. The annual competition aims to encourage and empower students and young adults to share their views on how we can make the Internet a better place for all. Schools and individuals in the U.S. and Canada submitted videos that answered the question, "If you could change one thing about the Internet, what would you change?" for a chance to win the grand prize of $10,000 each - one for a student and another for a school. Additional cash prizes of $1,000 were offered to four runner-up winners, with several other entries receiving Honorable Mention. A complete list of winners can be found here.

Constructivist Media Decoding:  Media Literacy and Critical Thinking in Social Studies

July 24 - July 26, 2017

Project Look Sharp (Ithaca College's media literacy initiative) and NCSS are sponsoring a three day workshop in Constructivist Media Decoding (CMD) from July 24-26, 2017 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. Join them to learn Constructivist Media Decoding theory, analyze models, access resources and gain the knowledge, skills, materials and practice in developing and delivering inquiry-based media analysis activities in social studies. Participants will receive individual feedback, reflect with colleagues, and finalize integration plans using diverse media documents and inquiry-based techniques that integrate critical thinking and literacy skills with core social studies curriculum. PBS's 30th Anniversary Season of documentaries is now available for free screenings via the recently re-launched POV Community Network This year's offers a timely montage o f diverse stories united by universal desires for inclusion, success and safety -- from Syrian immigrants adjusting to life in Los Angeles to North Carolina's rural African American communities to suburban police forces navigating rising tensions in their neighborhoods.
