From the Desk of Ellen Knippel, Principal
Dear Parents,
Well, November and winter is upon us! I never thought I would need to give winter weather instructions yet, but here it goes!
Winter outdoor dress code is on p.21 in the handbook. In a nutshell, students may play out on the grassy areas if they are wearing boots and snow pants. If the playground is wet and slushy, students will be asked to play closer to the building where it is more sheltered and dry. If the playground is relatively dry students do not have to wear boots (especially if they are playing kickball and basketball.) If you prefer to have your child wear boots at all times, please let us know. If the grass is too wet or muddy, everyone stays on the blacktop. Often it is a day-to-day call. Of course, please send mittens and hats daily as all students go outside at least once per day.
For snow closures, rule of thumb states that if Kettle Moraine closes, we close. This year I will be sending out a text via Call-Fire when we have a closing. I will also send notification to the TV stations in our area.
I hate to sound like a broken record, but
we are having a huge problem with tardy students! This last week we had 114!! Reminder: the first bell rings at 7:20 and the tardy bell rings at 7:25. The car rider lines get very slow at 7:22. I realize we had a snowy morning, but we are still having too many tardy students. I begin prayer at 7:30 and our day begins. It is very disruptive for teachers to have to wait or begin their lesson repeatedly for every student that comes in late. Could we please try to leave home 5 minutes earlier? I am always outside helping by 7:10 and there is also supervision for students in the lobby area beginning at that time. Let's see if we can drastically reduce that number this week! Thanks, everyone, for your help with this!
Also - here's one more reminder that everyone needs to bring cold lunch on Friday. Thank you!
Blessings,
Mrs. Ellen Knippel
