 I hope this Monday morning issue finds you having enjoyed a little of the fall weather this past weekend!
Congratulations to our varsity football team as they won again Friday evening during Senior Night. The Grenadiers defeated Windermere 44-41 which was their 4th win in the past 5 games including the victory over University in the annual Boot Game (see pictures below-

Please note that our excellent tutoring program restarts again tomorrow, November 5. Today marks the start of week #3 of the second quarter. If you have a student at Colonial, please be sure you have reviewed their report card grades which were released six days ago. If your student is not quite where they need to be, please get them engaged in our tutoring program this week. The payoff will be there next spring when all students will sit for the Florida Standards Assessment (FSA).
I hope you enjoy this week's update which one of our very talented assistant principals, Ms. Mary Vetter, prepares for the community every seven days.

Colonial Coders finish 3rd in Lockheed Martin state-wide competition!
On Saturday, October 26, 2019 four members of the Colonial Coders engaged in fierce competition with 9 other teams from across the state. Their quest was a CyberQuest sponsored by Lockheed Martin. When the dust settled and all was said and done, these four cyber warriors placed 3rd overall in the 2019 Lockheed Martin CyberQuest Competition. Quite a feat when you realize that this is the first time Colonial High School has competed in this event!
Caleb Sjöstedt, Carlos W. Caez, and Ahmed Aissam are CTE students in the Academy of Information Technology at Colonial High School main campus. Jeriel Velazquez is a dual enrollment student in the Enterprise Desktop and Mobile Support Technology program at Orange Technical College.

One of the areas they keep an eye on is those who cannot find work based on their educational attainment. Here are the results for October 2019 - data table.

Dr. Ellis and Mrs. Parisi
Students in Dr. Ellis' Reading classes experienced a "book tasting" in the Media Center, facilitated by our very own Media Specialist, Mrs. Parisi. This experience exposed students to multiple genres of books for the purpose of reading pleasure.

"The Gallery Walk"
Students are analyzing political cartoons through a Gallery Walk. This strategy allows students to preview multiple texts and to collaboratively analyze the elements within the political cartoon.

Community footnote: The instructional focus segment is prepared weekly by Assistant Principal Mary Vetter to help give the community some insight as to how our Grenadiers are advancing week-by-week. All students are required to sit for Florida Department of Education assessments next spring. These images show how the students are learning along the way - not just in terms of preparing for the spring exams, but acquiring an education which will prepare them for college, the private sector, military service or whatever path they choose after high school.

Boot Game Victory!
Our Grenadiers brought home the BOOT in our traditional game against the University HS Cougars, with a win of 60-42!

Leadership teams from both schools met before the game to share dinner and plan the supervisory logistics of the event.
