Brazil Gateway School Visits, Tours and Fairs

Jane K. Aparecido, director at the Ohio State Brazil Gateway, visited high schools in Brazil, from August to October, to talk to counselors, students and parents about Ohio States programs. Aparecido has also participated in recruiting fairs and tours such as The MBA Tour, representing the Fisher College of Business (August) and LL.M Tour, representing the Moritz College of Law (October), where she spoke about all the opportunities for Brazilian candidates. Close to 1,000 potential students attended the events in Latin America.

Sesquicentennial Special—Alumni Stories that Shape our History

Where love happens!

Maria Furtado Feldens (PhD in education, 1976) and Aray Miguel Feldens (PhD in agricultural economics, 1978) met at Ohio State and married in Columbus during their PhD programs. Mrs. Feldens received a special award for her thesis, and Mr. Feldens has since received an alumni award from the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Alumni Society in 2001.

"We have long academic, professional and affectionate ties to Ohio State," said the couple.

Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

Student-Alumni Council (SAC) is offering multiple scholarships for undergraduate students. SAC is dedicated to enhancing the connection among students past, present and future. They work to foster a sense of community and instill in our student body a lifelong commitment to the Ohio State alma mater. Applications are due January 26. Please note: You must be a full-time Ohio State University student and enroll in classes the following two semesters in order to be eligible. Regional campus students and international students are eligible to apply.

Brazilian Student Features Holocaust Survivor in Documentary

Vitor Vilaverde, a graduate student at The Ohio State University in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, was in Santos and São Paulo, Brazil in July to film his documentary focused on Andor Stern, the only living Brazilian who survived the Holocaust. "His story is so amazing and eventful that it has become a book, and now it'll be a documentary that I'm directing," said Vilaverde.

Global Perspectives: Taisse Torres

My name is Taisse Torres, and I am a junior majoring in psychology and Portuguese. Last spring, I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Curitiba, Brazil, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Not only did I learn a new language but I was immersed in a new culture and did things I never imagined I would have the chance to do, along with making strong bonds with the people I met and spent time with.
